The last head of department I worked under was a Muslim....a capable man....I could never quite get my head around how he could believe such obvious b*llocks....But I cynically think a lot of it revolves around the status it can give to successful people in the community. It takes a brave person to reject religion....especially Islam because....well the religion can be very extreme towards apostates. Edited by Stirlingsays (29 Mar 2017 3.05pm) I used to have an Iranian exile working for me who described himself as an atheist Muslim. I couldn't really get my head around it, but he said it was more complicated than 'whether you believe in Allah or not'. He said it was more like being born of a Jewish mother making you Jewish, no matter what you actually believe yourself to be. That said I used to know an Ishmalli girl when I worked in Slough and she was a total party animal, and probably had more sexual conquests than most men I know, and she was far more religious than he was.

Wise of him to be an exile then, Iran has hanged apostates (absolutely nothing to do with Islam of course).

It's like a disease with you lot. Cobblers. Your stance... Housing crisis brought on by lack of housebuilding - immigration

Although according to him the cities aren't too bad, there is quite an underground gay scene. The crime tends to be being 'out or open'. The Iranian secret police protect a lot of the gay haunts, because it gives them leverage over the Revolutionary guard etc.

That because of immigrants too.

What colourful people you have worked with. I'm old enough to remember when working with someone who wore coloured shirts and suede shoes was considered outré.
