I haven't got time to read all of the posts on this topic, and I expect someone has mentioned this already, but WHY oh WHY is the final on a Saturday at 4pm? I want to watch the game on the box but will be at the Palace at that time next weekend. There must be thousands of football fans committed to watching their team play on Saturday who would like to see the game. Are there any other great sporting events you'd like to re-schedule due to a clash of interests?
This is the rugby World Cup final and I would have thought that all involved, including ITV with an eye on viewing figures, would have wanted to maximise the audience, and in doing so expose the game to as many people as possible. Big matches like this can potentially sell the game to people who may not have previously been that interested in the sport.Seems a missed opportunity.

A 7pm KO would not be a problem in South Africa,2 hours ahead, Argentina 3 hours behind, the US 7 hours behind at most - all would take place during their daytime. I am sure there must be a reason for a 4pm start but I still think a 7pm/7:30 KO would have more advantages than a 4pm start, particularly as I would be able to watch!

It's daft, there must be some other reason for the kick off time.

Was in Dublin this weekend for the semi-finals - shame that they never made it as the place would have been in chaos... As for the final - agree that the timing is rubbish but it is what it is... As for the game - really looking forward to it. Still fancy the AB's but the Aussies will really make this a game.. The Sash 'Never-wrong-predict-o-meter' has Saffers to beat the Puma's by 9 or more

Actually, the kick off time is truly bizarre. 4pm in London is 3am in Sydney and 5am in Wellington. Had the game kicked off at 8pm GMT, it'd have been 7am in Sydney and 9am in Wellington when, presumably, the audience would have been much bigger. There must be a reason for the time and it must be related to money but beats me what it could be.

Predictions: Third place game is a hard one to call. Likely to be influenced by which side cares more. FdP is a massive loss for the Bokke, Pienaar has been absolutely awful so far in reserve. Bit surprised they didn't start Rudy Page. Also thought they might have given Pollard the night off; he's not brought his (very good) centres into play at all (shades of Farrell) and his kicking from hand has been consistently poor. Having seen the games between the two sides in both Durban and Buenos Aires in The Championship a couple months ago I'd take SA to shade it but it will close. If UAR catch fire early, they could take it. Likely a game won and lost in the mind, as I said. Final is, at last, a game between the best two teams in the world. AB form has been inconsistent; tbh their best game (France QF) was also a game in which the opposition didn't show up so it makes it harder to assess them. Straya have been outstanding pretty much from the start. Really could go either way but for a bit of variety I'll go against Sash and take Straya by 3 or so. I am going for the AB's by 10+ points. I just feel they are due a big performance in the competition.

Apparently this was decided in 2013 after consulting with police, transport and broadcasters. Sod the fans then...

Well played the AB's. Probably the best team at the right time in matches throughout the competition. A great habit to have.
