Too right.Mental health support services decimated in recent years;result, loads of potentially unstable people becoming full fledged unstable due to the cuts in that sector...a crying shame and a scandal. Sure, but increasing mental health support isn't going to reduce support for Islamic fundamentalism. Mental health problems are a stigma in that community anyway. It's one interpretation of the Qur'an. You don't have to be one of the violent ones to support that interpretation....there are always a few willing to be the tip of the spear. One man's terrorist is another's soldier for Allah.

The Qur'an seems to regard the mentally ill as 'special in the eyes of allah' probably more referring to schizophrenia and prophets. Problem with religion, is that there will always be people who take what was written by someone 1400-2000 years ago literally, despite the fact that their knowledge would probably be eclipsed by a ten year old today.

Why not just argue the f***ing point. Getting away with insults again Nick? The whole liberal, left position from the usual posters is to virtually ignore the route cause of the problem and introduce all kinds of other elements to fudge the issue. It's like a disease with you lot.

Mental health provision is always a hard sell as it's difficult to show its effectiveness because essentally it's measured in negative consequences not occurring that would otherwise happen. How effective it is ultimately is hard to say....But personally I feel it's an important funding area. The last head of department I worked under was a Muslim....a capable man....I could never quite get my head around how he could believe such obvious b*llocks....But I cynically think a lot of it revolves around the status it can give to successful people in the community. It takes a brave person to reject religion....especially Islam because....well the religion can be very extreme towards apostates. Edited by Stirlingsays (29 Mar 2017 3.05pm)
