Who cares, what do palace fans actually look back on and remember ? winning the championship against burnley In front of a record crowd and Brighton finishing 2nd, Liverpool semi, both fa Cup finals, Hopkins curling one in, freedman against Stockport, Hillsborough heroes, West ham at the millennium stadium, zaha away at Brighton in the play offs. I want a European run in with them memories. so do I, a beautiful post, three days sightseeing in Copenhagen, or Liege, Lisbon or Warsaw, discovering and partaking the eurotrash underworld in these cities and cheering on Palace drunk on excellent foreign beer in a weird looking stadium with strange european fans sporting handle bar moustaches and blowing trumpets, one day mate, we'll get there before we die.

I can see Roy doing another season. Benteke staying and a similar approach and style next season. Sorry, just think that is where this is going That would be the most stupid and ridiculous thing any club had ever done ...so you're probably right.

I've said it before, but to me the issue is not Roy per se. I think he is a lightning rod for a wider malaise. All my life Palace were trying to achieve this, establishing themselves in the top flight, but nobody thought it would be so joyless. Modern football blocks any challenge to the top sides. The glass ceiling is reinforced with iron. Leicester found a way in via the greatest miracle of all time, and fair play to them for taking lasting advantage of that, but otherwise the stable door is well and truly bolted. FFP prevents the next bankrolled upstart, whilst the poxy, godforsaken champions league and TV deals ensure the rich get richer every year. It just happens to be Roy at the helm when the realisation kicks in that we may not get any bigger or better than this. I appreciate that others feel I'm overthinking it on this one! Edited by TheBigToePunt (18 Mar 2021 5.48pm) Just being in the Premier is as high as Palace can realistically go, we are a comfortable mid table side, not worried with relegation battles for the last 3 seasons. Your right there is no chance of breaking into the top table, the ones there have made sure of that. As for going into Europe, what’s the point, we haven’t a big enough squad to deal with it and we have zero chance of winning or any domestic cups as the years go by, as big clubs squads get better each year. Roy just happens to be manager, so is seen as the Antichrist by some as he fails to deliver their dreams, it will be no different for the next manager, whoever that maybe. It’s not easy to break in the top 6 , Everton have been trying for years and invested millions with top rated managers, still can’t do it. A few teams have a purple patch and a good season, but can’t sustain it as their best players get poached by bigger clubs.

Is that really the reason for the anti Roy sentiment as I get the impression that most fans are fairly happy with our mid table position it's just the boring football it is taking us to maintain that position

A cup run would be nice. To at least have a squad that is robust enough to have a go at a cup tie, rather than treating them as an inconvenience. Hasn’t mattered this season, but when the crowds are back a few cup ties would be a welcome relief to the attritional league football.

After finishing 7th in the PL in season 2017-18,Burnley qualified for the 'Europa League' in season 2018-19. Maybe this didn't do them any favours as they only won 2 out of their first 15 PL games, we did the 'Double' over them and they finished in 15th place. I would happily finish in 15th place if it was due to us having had a brilliant season the year before and trying our hand in Europe. In fact that sort of 'striving to be better' is exactly what I want to see. I'm not expecting it every year but I do expect us to be trying to achieve something rather than merely existing in a League which is not an achievement to me any more.
