Was wondering this. They seem to have a good set up at Ajax, I wonder if FDB could bring some of them along. Marc Overmars was DoF The thought of having FDB, RDB, Bergkamp and Overmars around Palace is quite something, they clearly know how to nurture their young players
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

I note Wiki updates have gone into meltdown with it showing both that de Boer 'hates Brighton' and is also the Southampton manager. Attachment: boer.JPG (39.72Kb)

Ecstatic that Frank de Boer has been offered the Palace managerial position. I believe he's the right person to move us forward.

I like that the Croydon Advertiser have gone with "Former Rangers defender offered Palace job". Yep. Rangers defender. Definitely what he was most famous for.

At this point I'd take Nookie Bear just so we actually have a manager. FDB would be a huge result.

Second, we were in a RELEGATION BATTLE till the last matches of the season. If that doesn't scream GIANT GAPING HOLES nothing will. But you keep burying your head in the sand on that fact. Because if we do Nothing to address this will be in the same circumstance this coming year. We were in that situation for one reason and one reason only, viz. that Pardew went off his chimps and didn't get back on them during last summer's pre-season. We did something to address that already by dumping Pardew and getting in some more players. Unless the new manager turns out to be a Pardew clone we won't be in a relegation battle again. We need to maintain what we've got and build on it, but the major repairs required by Pardew's damage to the squad have basically been fixed. Quote
Third if it takes you a month literally a MONTH to find a replacement for a manager something is definitely wrong and I'm pointing the finger directly at SP and his leadership or lack there of. There are no contingency plans if something anything were to happen that's rudderless in my opinion. Bollocks I'm afraid. It is the close season; he had a mandate to do this carefully and with due consideration; the worst scenario is getting a muppet who falls on his face immediately and can't be replaced quickly with the season underway (cf. Birmingham); and whatever contingency plans you make if your manager ups sticks and leaves you're at the mercy of whomever happens to be available on the market at the time. More important is the right deal done with the right person. Quote
Lastly looking to the past does no one any good it's about progressing forward and you and most of the posters here are looking towards or living in the past. Yay we did x, y, and z last year doesn't matter in the world of football it's about progressing forward. Which presumably explains why people with zero experience of running a PL football club keep coming on here making grandiose statements about why it's all being done wrong. If you ignore the past, how do you know what works and what doesn't?

I work for a company which has as one of its directors Philipp Lahm. Philipp is represented at board meetings by his manager (who is also Markus Weinzierl's manager, used to manage Owen Hargreaves and was captain of Bayern Munich's reserves) a guy called Roman Grill. In contrast to me (and most of the people on here, if they're honest!) he actually knows a LOT about football. (He really does; it's genuinely interesting to hear someonw who works professionally in football talk about the game, it makes the conversations I have in the pub with my mates seem childishly naive.) Anyway, we had a board meeting today and he was there and in his considered opinion, appointing Frank de Boer will be a disaster. I fear the worst!
