Eze explains why Steve should ask Roy and Ray if they fancy another season.

Eze explains why Steve should ask Roy and Ray if they fancy another season. Is interesting and a nice piece from Ebz. I do wonder if one of PV's shortcomings was his inability to manage the chaps and not just the players (many may say he did not do that to any effective extent)? Might be the same with other young managers - the likes of Lampard and Gerrard, who are not that far away from being players themselves, in that trying to rigidly enforce their own belief system into how football is played alongside a lack of softer skills causes problems in man management. Hence the apparent aloofness and seeming lack of responsibility being taken when this did not pan out (it's the players' fault, not mine)? I often had the feeling PV might almost be seen as a bit of a senior player trying to tell the younger lads what he wanted them to do as opposed to the Roy/Ray paternal and 'wise, old' approach. This might have caused the rigidity and therefore constrictions and restrictions on the players that we witnessed with Roy/Ray unlocking that for improved performances and morale? Probably too early in the morning for my already limited footballing hypotheses however may be food for thought!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Yes, a very good analysis, and i think a correct one, i am glad that you said Roy and Ray because it is a duo that works, not just Roy

Personally, and initially, I was perhaps more pleased to see Ray's milk bottle legs (I own a pair myself ) marching up and down the touchline as I was to see Roy back in there!

Just my view, but I think that the relationship between Parish and Hodgson is good enough for Roy to have already agreed another year if another suitable candidate is not found. If you believe the report, I read that Brendan Rodgers is returning to Celtic having turned Palace down.

If you believe the report, I read that Brendan Rodgers is returning to Celtic having turned Palace down. Read that but have not heard it anywhere else so most likely only based on probability. Could be true if Brendan needs a big transfer purse and silverware he isn’t likely to get it at Palace, and silverware is more or less nailed on in Glasgow.

If Roy,is up for the challenge,an offer of a one year deal is a non brainer.

We are not an attractive proposition for proven PL managers because they know they won't be given the kind of transfer kitty they want. Of the younger manager options wanting to prove themselves, both Gerrard and Lampard have shown they aren't ready for PL, (and I wonder whether they ever will be). Potter remains a possibility unless he's already been approached and said no. I'm not sure that the squad we have would suit the style he wants to play nor whether he is willing to adapt the style of play to the squad we have. It's fine telling Parish to get the manager position sorted but as we discovered back in 2021, the so-called better managers seem reluctant to want to come here. Appointing a manager from a foreign league is risky. Meanwhile, happy Transfer Day to all Palace fans on this site Edited by doombear (14 Jun 2023 11.16am)

I can understand that Parish might want to wait till Monday in order acknowledge Roy's enormous contribution, to make the announcement either about another year for Roy and Ray, or Potter if he decides to go for an experienced younger guy like Potter. I'd be happy about either.
