So for example, you think that most Muslims aren't in favour of death to anyone who insults their religion?

No I don't think that is true at all. I think it is true of a sizable, but reducing, minority. Most want exactly the same as everyone else and as time passes and the locally born generations become immersed in British culture so the extreme views will fade away.

You don't think the majority of Muslims believe that women are second class citizens?

I don't. The 50% who are women are unlikely to believe it, even if they get treated as such. The young, after exposure to British views, challenge such ideas. Which leaves primarily men who have been brought up to accept such ideas or been radicalised here. The older group will die off whilst the younger need to be resisted and re-educated.

In any case, it doesn't matter if only a percentage of a culture is undesirable. What matters is that it is undesirable and now in this country via mass immigration.

You can make a case that our country has accepted a higher level of immigration than is desirable.(I don't accept that case myself). You can make a case that we haven't ensured that all new arrivals are sufficiently screened and monitored so that extreme views are weeded out prior to an "indefinite leave to remain" being granted. You can make a case that no special rules should apply to Commonwealth countries. You can make a case that the rules on bringing in "family members" needs to be revised and strengthened. What you cannot do is decide that any major religion is "undesirable" because to do that would produce more problems than it solves. We are where we are and we need to find real solutions.

No one needs to use racist language to expose the truth. The truth is out there.

Yes it is and I agree. You can talk about the actual problems without any need to use racist language. That many seem incapable of doing so is regrettable.

This process has nothing to do with equality and fairness and everything to do with globalisation, a cheaper pool of labour, greedy self interest and manipulating thought to accommodate it.

Globalisation is simply a factor of today's world. It hasn't been created by some kind of mythical elite seeking to feather their own nests with cheaper labour. Such ideas are the result of fanciful conspiracy theorists. It's the IT revolution combined with increased global trade and efficient shipping methods which has created today's world. If we are to compete in that world we need to be part of that world.

it's really 5hlt. Even on the BBS

Every thread descends into skin-colour and accusations about posters' political and sexual stances.

same old people doing the accusing. Boring

A better solution would be to restrict the number of mini cabs in London. They could start by only issuing licences to drivers who live in the M25 area.

This was one of two race-based conundrums on the news this morning (this being Sadiq Khan being accused of racially discriminating against BAME taxi drivers). The other was a white person claiming to have been kiddy fiddled in the past by a black person, namely Michael Jackson.

I don't. I, and and they, embrace it and the opportunities it gives those who can see them. I have spent more than 1/3rd of the past 20 years in Asia and used to own a beachfront 2nd home there. During those years I have seen the economic situation, the health and the general well being of the people there improve dramatically, because of globalisation.

Back home my grandson has just come back from a skiing holiday in Aspen and the standard of living of my entire family has continually improved. Their jobs are very different to those my parents and grandparents did. I would never have dreamt of such prospects as a boy. We just need to be smart.

The whole world has changed. It has become smaller and much more interdependent. The disparities between the rich and poor nations is shrinking. Only the Canutes try to stop the tide of history. Those with their eyes open and the determination to enjoy where the tide will take them can live great lives. Not the lives of our fathers, or the builders of the British Empire, but great lives still.

Which is why Brexit is such a daft idea, but that's another thread!

I'm afraid I have to disagree on all the key points.

I certainly can say that major religion is undesirable. I do not make allowances for religion just because a lot of indoctrinated people believe in the same fairy stories or use such nonsense to control others. This stuff is a throwback from when we didn't know better. Now we do.
I do not for one minute believe that only a small percentage of Muslims believe in as examples, death to blasphemers and the suppression of women's rights. You are deluding yourself.

Globalisation did not arrive by magic it was created by people and driven by greed. Its symptoms are therefore driven by the need to profit. The motivation for mass immigration is to make more even profit. There is no social advantage whatsoever. Its aim is to help reduce wages so the rich get richer at our expense.

Capitalism is the word.
Poverty in the world has dropped from 39% to 10% in the last 50 years due to capitalism.
Globalisatiin is just making the world smaller.

It makes a nice change to find at least one point of agreement for I too make no special allowances for those who hold religious beliefs. It is my belief that religious, and similar, beliefs should not occupy the public square where they can impact non believers. They should only been present in private spaces. You can believe whatever you like in private but the law is the law for us all.

So even if a religion demands that it's followers must believe in the most appalling (to others) concepts so long as that idea remains within their walls no harm is done. As soon as anyone steps outside with those ideas and into shared space the law must step in. In practice I don't think that a majority of educated Muslims truly believe in death for blasphemy etc. I have been to places like Malaysia and not found such ideas to be prevalent. I know it remains an issue in rural communities in places like pakistan and that there is work to do.

This kind of issue is not restricted to Islam. I have encountered it on traditional Catholic forums too where fundamentalist, Old Testament, attitudes towards non believers can readily be found. Look up Dominionism. Although perhaps not as extreme it indicates the scary nature of an absolute faith.

Globalisation certainly did not arrive by magic but neither did it arrive as a consequence of greed or any kind of overall plan by some mythical "elite". It arrived as the natural evolutionary consequence of the way our world has developed, helped along by the UN as a means to try to alleviate poverty and create a more equitable world. For sure capitalism was involved because that's what the world turns on.

The motivation for mass immigration is not to make more profit. It is both to respond to humanitarian needs and to plug gaps in the labour market. When I owned a care home I could not find staff locally so had to recruit overseas. The alternative was to close the business, which would have been a disaster for everyone involved. I didn't get rich but I did keep afloat. On a much bigger scale the NHS could not survive without immigration, both of medical staff and support workers. That will continue for ever, so far as I can see.
