I think wanting teams to below us to win is naive. The complexion of the table can change massively in two games. Newcastle have previous for pulling results out against big teams when they're under pressure at the end of the season as have Brighton. Our defensive record is a massive concern. Fulham with their seven or eight loan players are looking good. I don't think anyone should be complacent.

But it means we have more chance of overtaking the teams above us which in turn means more money, positive thinking!

My cup's half empty but have to say I'm a bit spooked by the nature of most of our wins and our goals against. Points on the board need to be looked at in the context of our distance from the third bottom team.

Newcastle did not win, let's see if your doomladen pessimism and dreary outlook improves if we don't lose to West Brom. I believe your posts are a tongue in cheek parody as it would be very sad if you were truly as miserable as you seem all the time and confused that state with realism. COYP Originally posted by Willo
Should Newcastle defeat A.Villa tonight they will just be 4 pts behind us.

COYP With respect my predictions and my posts in general are certainly not 'Tongue in cheek' in any shape or form. Of course I am thoroughly miserable when we lose but elated when we win so I am not a glumbucket all of the time although I admit that on quite a few occasions less than flattering terms have been aimed in my direction containing the words "Miserable" and "Moaning". Returning to the subject matter, with our run of remaining fixtures I still believe we could well end the season in 18th place but I accept this is a minority view on here and of course the 'picture' can change after a couple of rounds of fixtures. Don't worry about 18th, a comet will destroy the earth in a couple of weeks. I am not using miserable in a derisory sense at all. I also agree with your measured fact based analyses of Mr Hodgson. COYP Edited by HKOwen (12 Mar 2021 11.30pm)

COYP Edited by HKOwen (12 Mar 2021 11.30pm) I have been called some choice terms including the word "Miserable" in bouts of derision, some directed at me by my dear wife so I am used to such brickbats!! Be delighted to be proved totally wrong about the WBA result!!

Be delighted to be proved totally wrong about the WBA result!! Too many teams below us with too few points, we are safe. As it has been mentioned teams below us have to play each other and not everyone can win. The Oldham example which was the original great escape. They needed to win their remaining 3 fixtures. The one that stuck out for me was the Liverpool game at Boundary Park where the Liverpool goalkeeper David James threw the ball into his own net. I still say this game was fixed and it was at a time when match fixing was rife throughout Europe. Previously we won our home game against Ipswich Town and we thought that would be enough as Oldham had shown little form leading up to the games that were must wins to stand any chance of staying up. Back then we really were in a dog fight, not this time...

We MUST beat them and then I'd feel more comfortable with our position. A bad run like we ended last season would be disastrous but fingers crossed ...

Be delighted to be proved totally wrong about the WBA result!! prepare to be delighted - this Palace side generally loses to superior teams and beats inferior teams - we have key attacking players back - we will win comfortably, bit like the Sheff Utd game, we'll be too good simples. And we'll be so up for getting the three points. 2-0.

WBA are far better placed at this moment in time. They have tightened up considerably in their last 5 games only conceding 2 goals and they will prove tough opponents this afternoon.
