I could not agree more.
Riedewald was a revelation but I suspect had McCarthy been fit he would not have started.

Exactly ! And you can probably say the same thing about Batshuayi. We all know what will happen once Ayew is available.

Maybe we were going for a record . Still got something from it, so I don't like to get too pessimistic.

Quite. Bats been onside and the ball not deflected and we would have been laughing at how we won 2 0 and got dunk sent off without shifting out of 2nd.

You know it makes sense pal. Onwards and upwards. It'll all be forgotten if we get a result in the Fulham match.

So unless 20 years is a short memory.. it was that bad.

Slightly off topic but I remember not having a shot on target in the regulation 90 minutes for two consecutive home games against Watford and we won both (Deeney own goal in the first and two injury time goals in the second).

Wonderful, Willo. In your golden years you're waxing ever more lyrical. I almost hope that this "negative dross" persists so that I can continue to look forward to reading your scathing and withering opinions - which, as someone posted on Sunday, are considerably more entertaining than the "football" we're served up.

Reminds me that my dear wife once referred to me as a "Withered old cucumber" - or perhaps I mis-heard and she said I had a "Withered old cucumber".

In terms of our style of football, I suspect nothing will change and "Hodgsonball" is set in stone.
I don't look forward to seeing us play anymore - certainly yawn inducing.

I think you’ve alluded to it, but you have to make the distinction between ‘shots’ and ‘shots on target’ - no shots on target isn’t THAT uncommon, no shots is.

Interesting stat regardless.

Had a look at what the Brighton point of view might be on the result.

They think they deserved 3 points (rightly) and the penalty was dodgy, but it largely seems like a bit of a non result.

Some comments that they'd rather be watching Brighton than Royball. It's encouraging in a way that we are angry at the performance and result whilst they are unsure what to make of it.

The main complaint seems to be about their players outfits with a lot of attention given to the shorts they wore.

whether withered or old a cucumber is still a cucumber - your faulty hearing does seem suspiciously like wishful thinking, but I am not party to the contents of your allotment (so to speak), nor would I wish to be, of course. More relevant is your not looking forward to watching us play - my enthusiasm has also emptied out, it's hard to enthuse about what combination of defensive midfielders will help to shore us up and maintain shape, instead of 'if we put Zaha back out right and played Eze as a number 10 etc'. I hope we keep Jairo in the middle, but it doesn't seem like there's room for both Eze and Schlupp in the same XI atm - maybe if McCarthy plays alongside Jairo and Eze plays as an advanced midfielder/number 10, a bit like Chamakh did for us, but I'm not sure he's ready yet for such a pivotal role.

Well Bats had a good goal disallowed by a fractional offside by the iniquitous VAR and that would have been 2-0 then things would have looked very different.

We would all be declaring how satisfied we were with three points and how Hodgson's tactics were spot on!!

The problem Hodgson has is are they good enough for a more adventurous approach.

I don't think we will be seeing that until we are nearly safe, that is the most teams like us can achieve against the mega-rich.

And the weed were very good, give them give credit.

You see I'm sorry this is the part I totally disagree with... The Weed were very good because we allowed them to look very good... I can guarantee no other side will allow them to look like we made them look... Especially at home...

One thing I will say is that Lampety looks a hell of a player... They will be lucky to hold on to him but I'm sorry there's no reason why we shouldn't be putting sides like Brighton to bed...

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

When they figure out how to use Lampety properly, he'll be dangerous. He's so quick that he'll be deadly on the overlap – even the longball if they can surprise people.

Martin Samuel opined in the Mail that Hodgson would be relieved that there were no fans in the stadium as the verdict would have been damning.
In his view this type of performance may be acceptable against Liverpool, but not Brighton.
He also points out that Palace have lost 9 out of the last 13 games.
It’s only a journalist’s opinion and there’s nothing too contentious, but I’d does reflect what many fans have been saying.
Many fans are annoyed with Hodgson suggesting it was a good performance post match as if the fans can’t see what’s put in front of them.
I can’t understand why we played 20 yards further forward away at Man Utd - pushing four players forward in ostensibly a more difficult game - but are so passive at home to Brighton.
I’ve spoken to a few fans who in a perverse way were almost pleased that Brighton equalised otherwise Hodgson would have felt vindicated by this way of playing.
While I wouldn’t go that far I can see where they are coming from.
