I'm not sure that people are getting their head around the numbers (potentially) affected as yet.

It was forecast quite early on (when it was emerging from China) that 1.4 billion people could be affected. If you have a 2% mortality rate worldwide, that's 20 million (yes 20 million) deaths. We're at 6,500 and counting today.

We're nowhere near the end of this yet.

But, however scary that sounds, it still means that 98 out of every 100 people that catch it won't die. So is the economic depression that we're heading for, with all the residual bankruptcies, missed mortgage payments and mass unemployment that'll follow, actually worth the preventive measures being taken?

I don't know the answers and would hate to have to make the decisions, and being in an at risk category I'm not looking at it from the I'm alright Jack camp, but I do feel that when this is all over there'll be a lot of looking back and questions over whether it was all worth it.

Mezzer I agree. The measures taken will have a dramatic effect on everyone as a global economic depression is most likely to follow. This will have a far worse impact on as you say 98% of the population than catching the virus itself.
Anyone with a pension pot will have already seen the value of that falling by 40 / 50 %. It may recover in time (history suggests it will) but that will be no consolation to those whose retirement date has been extended by 10 years.

Researchers have developed vaccines and are starting to test them on animals, and if that goes well there could be human trials later in the year.

The mass production required would mean that it could mean that they aren't available till the middle of next year.

If measures are not taken to restrict and contain then everyone would get Covid-19 at the same time and no one would be able to work. In my opinion (obviously very limited knowledge) it is best to contain and let it drag on longer to ensure not everyone gets it at the same time

Hancock said, in an answer to a similar question, that it's hard to become reinfected once you've been through it.

But you hear different.....Still, I suspect that like most flu type illnesses the body develops antibodies.

No it doesn't this is why it is a problem for them to find a cure they had even stated the anti bodies disappear quickly.

Hancock is a lying with an agenda their is many cases of reinfection and remember this is still early phases so this could mutate already some had stated their is two strains now.

We should of done like Taiwan we are an island but from day one the governments advisers was feeding Boris the wrong info so by that time they was too late which is why they are banking on this herd method

Plus they don't care if the elderly or disability people die its a win for them.

Maybe too simplistic, but I really did think we should have shut the borders immediately.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Looks like you are better informed than most of us then. Including the WHO.

There have been three possible examples as far as I can see, and in no case has a proper analysis been undertaken. Maybe the 'all clear' tests were botched.

However, it is true that in the case of the first SARS (this is the second) antibodies were less prevalent by year 3. Doesn't mean they couldn't ramp up again quickly necessarily but it may be you could catch it a second time in three years' time.

So you're saying that the Prime Minister and the rest of the cabinet all want their fathers to die

Sorry but isolating is not about saving lives. It is all about spreading out the deaths so that come the winter, less people die of the second wave.

The lack of a basic level of understanding about how viruses work is staggering. Nobody has a natural immunity to Covid-19. Therefore the only way to stop it is to prevent the spread is having 60% of the population to have had it and got better.

If anything those of us who are not in the at-risk groups should be deliberately infected with it. We should be socialising more, in optimum conditions for it to spread.

I would happily be infected today so that within 10 days I can get on with normal life.

OK, perhaps I am a bit of a lunatic but seriously, the only effective action is to ensure that most of us get it but spread out over the months to come. Not hide away from it now so that it can come back and bite us on the arse in November with a long winter ahead.

Catch Covid-19 now if you are under 70 and are not already having to visit the Doctor once a month.

I think you have expressed concerns that quite a few of us have thought about there.

I'm more in the containment camp rather than immunity one....but hey, it's not as though any of us feckers get any say......We have to pick up the pieces whatever happens.

China mostly controls the world’s pharmaceutical industry with about 95% of antibiotics.

Basically the neo liberals pretty much outsourced the entire industry to China.

Don't you just love it......Who needs loyalty eh when there's a buck to be made.
