Some assume that everyone wants open door migration forever and that it's only good for all concerned. Migrants, citizens of home country and destination country yet probably have very little experience of it first hand. Edited by Rudi Hedman (31 Jan 2017 11.40am) I think that there are three groups. People who want no migration, and believe anyone who wants any kind of migration want total open let anyone in policy, reasonable people, and people who regard anyone who talks about migration as being rabid racist Nazi fascists who are one jackboot away from totalitarianism. Unsurprisingly, reasonable people are lost in the voice of lots of rather stupid people shouting and jumping on equally absurd and irrational band wagons.

It's not a ban on all Muslims. Just like Hitler? Yes of course. Hysterical. The ban doesn't apply to people from these banned countries with dual citizenship so that would allow those more likely to be involved in terrorism in. This would also include the recent 1 million German Muslim migrants where there's also been a few incidents. So they're not welcome into the US for 3 months but they are in Germany. Interesting on added motives to this with regards to gun laws. Makes sense. Don't 57% of Americans agree with the ban? Well if it was a ban on Muslims it would be illegal. However, the rhetoric and the campaign promise was very much about installing a ban on Muslims. Or did I imagine that, during the election and nomination campaign an explicit promise to ban Muslims from coming to the US etc.

But Rudy Guiliani was caught on tv admitting that the entire focus of the order is to keep Muslims out. [Link] - text of the order

The thing with Trump is he's a foot in mouth kind. The kind who doesn't really feel 100% everything he says. Like the guy in the pub who says something a little bit racist but does actually have ethnic minority friends, but is just a bit foolish/stupid/embarrassing. I bet Trump has friends of all ethnicities. Whether he meant 'all' or knew it would be welcomed by half the vote in the US, who knows. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the man and if he were in my circle I'd swerve him but I bet he addresses things overdue and scores low on others, just like all leaders. The hysterics will just bore people in the end. It's a 120 ban whilst they get admin up to scratch anyway. Had someone say something to me when a black guy was coming in and out of a room. He hasn't a harmful bone in his body. Was trying to be funny. He wasn't funny and as I'd seen the David Brent film the night before I told him he reminded me of David Brent. It spoilt his day.

I'm not sure the admin isn't up to scratch. Its incredibly difficult to get into the US from any of those countries, compared to say Saudi Arabia, UAE or Egypt for example. If you want to focus on 'stopping the kind of terrorism' the US is talking about, you need to start with focus on Saudi and pakistan, although I'd also argue that Yemen is probably not a bad idea (broken clocks and all that).

I'm amused by the BBC's usual impartial reporting.... Nearly every News bulletin on TV and Radio triumphs "....more than 1.5 Million people have now signed the petition blah blah" By my reckoning that makes roughly 63.5 Million people that haven't signed it? Come on BBC... keep schtum till at least 30 Million people have signed the petition... the overwhelming majority of us couldn't give a fcuk about Trump's Visa requirements for the USA. Also the BBC can't wait to show Protesters all over the major Cities shouting "What do we want? Trump OUT! When we do we want it? NOW!".... or other equally boring s***! Here in Bristol there is virtually a demonstration on College Green outside the Council Offices every day FFS. It's the same politically motivated rent-a-mob from Bristol West every time... they all arrive on their bikes, with ginger dreadlocks, facial piercings and goatee beards... and that's just the women! All they achieve is a complete snarl up of traffic preventing decent people trying to get home from work in a decent time to have their tea and see their kids. Yet, BBC Points West are there night after night highlighting their latest cause by interviewing some right on Green lefty LBGT supporting workshy activist. Leftie luvvies can wet their collective knickers in outrage, millions of people can protest march and sign a petition, and all they will achieve is absolutely nothing. Trump is the president of the USA, elected by the US electorate, so protesting over here in the UK is pointless. The same idiots reacted the same way with the Brexit referendum result. They only understand democracy when it is on their terms.

Is that like the idiot Farage who said if the vote was close but remain won, he would push for another referendum?

Can anyone verify that Palestinians have been left off of Trump's list of banned entry countries because it would mean recognising Palestine as a state.

More people (including many children) are killed in teh US by US citizens who aren't migrants from any kind of middle eastern countries, if fact they are usually 'true' Americans who are many generations into the country. Just look at the many shopping mall & school shootings that take place every year. thousands more die this way than any kind or potential 'terrorist' attacks in the US and yet what has Trump said about this? Absolutely nothing of course because he's a racist coward. He also hates other countries that easily out compete the US such as Europe and Japan that manufacture the best cars in the world that Americans queue up to buy because the US makes some of the worst and most polluting cars in the world. He wants a weak Europe and a weak Asia so his prehistoric manufacturing and technology bases have some kind of hope in 'competing'. Now he's been completely humiliated over the travel ban he imposed which lasted a matter of days. This will be the first of many humiliations because he's clueless about anything internationally politically savvy.
