Its not a big player in terms of Europe though, Turkey is. It borders the middle east etc... Albania, hasn't really much in the way of political clout. Albania is pretty secular for the most part. Practicing muslims are a minority and there are no real outward signs (very few headcoverings, never seen a burka, you only hear the call to prayer if you are right by a mosque at the right time). Most Albanians probably couldn't tell you when Ramadan ends without checking their diary.

Evidence for this? Or is it another conspiracy theory? I'll bet £100 towards any registered charity you name that on June 25th Turkey will be as far away from being a member as it is today. My charity is Autism Sussex. Not the I like the DM but mainstream reporting this now
VOTING OUT - Brexit will allow Britain to embrace the Commonwealth and be GREAT again |

Not the I like the DM but mainstream reporting this now Daily Mail says Cameron is lying shock! 35 chapters to complete. 1 completed in 10 years. 16 more opened but not completed. One to open June 24! It can only mean one thing!! It's gonna take more than teams of British civil servants to make Turkey eligible for membership of EU.

Not the I like the DM but mainstream reporting this now The EU (including the UK) have had experts working to prepare Turkey to join the EU for the last 20 years. They will have them for the next 20 years as well. We also have experts working to prepare the Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia and Georgia to either join or to reach EU standards. Turkey has already been a member of the Customs Union for almost 20 years now, I think, and there is every chance they will sign some form of agreement with the EU at some point which will give them further preferred status. But there is no possibility Turkey joining the EU as a Member State in the next 20 years...even people like Gove begrudgingly admit that. If it really came to it, would the UK veto? No, and nor would Germany, for the sensible political reason that it is much easier for us to let France exercise their veto, which they have said they will do, rather than unnecessarily damage the UK's relationship. Turkey has been a canard (pun intended) since the 1970s. We don't want to tell them they cant join, and we don't want to let them in (not my personal view, the view of the EU generally). So we all continue to play the game, as does Turkey. When things get edgy, they say they don't want to join anyway and we all hug and make up. Diplomacy was ever thus and always will be. But anyone suggesting that Turkey will be an EU Member State within the next 20 years (minimum) is either extremely ignorant, or a liar.

Thanks Dave, for explaining it more factually, but not sure it's going to convince those who are convinced otherwise.
