I'm not an expert on the rules but if the ball goes forward from the Scottish player, and then goes backward off the Australian, into the arms of a Scotland player shouldn't it have been a scrum to Australia for a knock on?

Yes it's accidental offside. How Joubert could give that a penalty with 100% accuracy is beyond me. Even in replays you can't see the last touch clearly.

I'm with you on that. They played it back about 20 times after the fact and I couldn't call it. In that scenario the fair call would be to say it's an Aussie scrum. A bad call by the ref.

Have you not noticed how often this happens with Southern Hemisphere refs! He was the ref at 2011 Final when NZ got all the decisions in their favour. I just spoke to a NZ fan who said the same, the feeling in NZ after the last final was that they "got the rub of the green!"

What a weekend. Can't add much for now as it's all been said. Glued to the television once I'd got home from Selhurst on Saturday. There's going to have to be a massive de-brief in the NH on a lot of different levels and covering multiple issues but that's best saved for another day, after the tournament is over. For the present, next weekend should be no less riveting than this.

One question to ponder. Why is it that Italy, with a decade plus of Six Nations experience, remain little more than a backwater embarrassment while Argentina, with barely a quarter of that time in the Rugby Championship, have rapidly matured into one of the best teams in the world?

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Are the captains not allowed to approach and advise the ref to watch the video replay then? Gavin Hastings is fuming. Sounds like he wants to give a verbal battering when he sees him.

Cheated.

I'm gutted for them. They're shellshocked. Time to cheer on Argentina against the Aussies!

I honestly don't get how it was allowed to happen and the passive acceptance of the decision by the players. Don't expect them to get narky but surprised they didn't suggest the video. Or is that deemed ungentlemanly in rugby?

Can't go up to the TMO for that Kerms - it's up to the ref

The ref should have gone to the TMO for the late hit on the scottish kicker that put it in touch!

If he had Scotland would have been awarded a penalty.

I guess its a rhetorical question but Ill answer it anyway..

Could it be that as they now play regularly against the best 3 sides in the world, whilst our Italian cousins are still mooching round against us second tier johnnie,s its shows just how much playing a style of rugby so alien and better than ours just makes better players quicker...

It depends how this is pushed and supported within the respective nations. Could be the governing bodies for sports in Italy have no interest in supporting it in any meaningful way, whereas the Argies actually want to establish it? I don't know the route either has taken, but judging it on "years playing the sport" alone doesn't really answer those questions.

No answers, just further questions there, I'm afraid

That wasn't the only s*** decision of the day mind Hoof

Did you see the Ireland v Puma game...At 20-23 with Ireland in the ascendancy, at a breakdown with the Irish pummelling forward, the Puma tackler rolled away and was doing his upmost to get out of the way.

The ref actually stood in his way so he had to arc around the ref or flatten him. The ref saw it, waited until he had got back and then gave Ireland a pen for offside which Madigan missed.

Had Nigel Owens been in charge he would have never given it, realising he was actually the reason the Puma was offside.

If Madigan hadn't missed who knows - 23-23 with their tails up after clawing back from 17-0 - it could have been a completely different ending such are the fine margins.

I think the Puma's victory was hard earned and fair.

Around the time you mentioned above the ref could have sent off the player who dived in with his head (having been yellow carded before) but he bottled it I felt.

Strange that the ref for the Scotland game didn't want to shake hands though... that goes against the ethics of the game itself!

I don't know if other English rugby fans have this view but:

The Taffs or the Sweaties getting marmalised by Tonga or Japan - hurrah and ha ha ha.

Against the Southern Hemisphere heavyweights I find my allegiance turns to supporting the home nations.

Am I just fickle?
