Quite. Bats been onside and the ball not deflected and we would have been laughing at how we won 2 0 and got dunk sent off without shifting out of 2nd.

Something positive to emerge from the fixture.

I could not agree more.
Riedewald was a revelation but I suspect had McCarthy been fit he would not have started.

The problem with Sunday was not Sunday. It was the pattern that emerged in games before Sunday over a long period.

If Sunday had been an unfortunate misfire amid a sea of dazzling attacking displays, this would not be being discussed.

So a better question might be: can you remember such a prolonged period of low-ambition negativity since we came up? The fact it culminated in such a poor performance against our main rival had merely added to the piquancy.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

We are an abysmal watch and I have assumed a repose of semi-paralysis at witnessing us churning our turgid, negative dross.

A look of instant gaseous nausea falls on my face as I see us squandering possession and just retreating into 'Shape' whilst the opponents play the ball around us.We make us much progress up the pitch as a plastic pedalo in a Force Nine gale.

Indeed a prolonged period of low-ambition negativity. We are ploughing the same acres until the rhetorical soil has acquired the texture of badly prepared mince.

Well Bats had a good goal disallowed by a fractional offside by the iniquitous VAR and that would have been 2-0 then things would have looked very different.

We would all be declaring how satisfied we were with three points and how Hodgson's tactics were spot on!!

The problem Hodgson has is are they good enough for a more adventurous approach.

I don't think we will be seeing that until we are nearly safe, that is the most teams like us can achieve against the mega-rich.

And the weed were very good, give them give credit.

It’s the only time since Opta started recording stats (03/04 season) that a team has only had one shot in a game and that shot be a penalty.

So unless 20 years is a short memory.. it was that bad.

Agree - I’ve been saying since the back end of last year I’ve never experienced a period of enjoying watching my club play less than I am at the moment... we’ve had worst teams, no doubt, but I’ve never found us as difficult to watch and just generally felt it’s not worth the time.

Anyone who thinks this is about one narrow offside decision is seriously deluding themselves.

All rather hypothetical.

The fact is Batshuayi didn't score and we churned out an abysmal, dire performance which I suspect reduced our supporters to slack-jawed somnolence.

Apropos the Batshuayi offside goal, he received a lovely pass from Riedewald whom Hodgson has side-lined recently and who might not have started if McCarthy had been fit.

We signed a playmaker in Camarasa and we know what happened to him, Eze has been signed but he has been benched.I suspect Batshuayi would not have started if Ayew was available.

Brighton were allowed to have the 'Lion's share' of the game due to our abject negativity.

I never saw one tweet about the game from any player which is unusual. I think they all knew it was utter garbage. The players should have a pow wow with Roy and tell him to stick his tactics up his a*se

Wonderful, Willo. In your golden years you're waxing ever more lyrical. I almost hope that this "negative dross" persists so that I can continue to look forward to reading your scathing and withering opinions - which, as someone posted on Sunday, are considerably more entertaining than the "football" we're served up.

Playing like that for Palace in a game against Brighton would drive me nuts!
Sitting in banks of four getting deeper and deeper into our own half-first bank of 4 on the 5.5m line and the second bank of 4 on the 16.5m line with Wilf or Bats wandering about on their own in turn near the center circle.
No wonder Wilf always thinks about leaving Palace the only support he gets is around his shins!

Only once in 97 mins did we show we had a cutting edge and that was disallowed!
I am only glad that I haven't paid to watch this stuff live this year!
We really do need to give our attack something to do other than defending, our defence 15m further up the park, Reiderwald the freedom in midfield to hit a few decent passes. The whole team to pass to one another, instead of the opposition and at least get 4-5 passes in succession, surely not difficult for a bunch of professional footballers?
Palace's OPTA stats for possession, passing etc are crap.
So what are we practicing in training shooting from distance? Set pieces? corner routines?
defending deep in banks of 4 obviously. Must queue like that in the canteen at lunchtime as well.
Ray & Roy have to try and get around to be served first!
I want to see some attacking flair, pinpoint passing, possession football and above all some shots on goal from anywhere by anyone!!!!
Fancy our chances at Fulham anyone or twill this be another dire defend fest!!!!!
