Really? You expected an unauthorised, unidentified, person of unknown intent to approach the PM, be able to tell the police "it's OK, I'm a comedian" and to be let off immediately with a "well off you go, you cheeky little scamp".

To be honest, I think he was lucky not to get shot (I assume the PM has armed protection officers on duty at all times)

I think you will find that Armed officers are taught to assess situations and not use their weapons at a mere whim, you are denigrating their exhaustive training or are you saying the Tories have cut their training as an economic measure?

Nice try. No, I'm not saying that, and certainly not denigrating them. I'm fairly sure our security services stack up very well in terms of training and, more importantly, how to use it. Now you are asking those personnel to take a split second decision based on
* a tw@t approaching the PM
* same tw@t thrusting something towards her (as it turns out a piece of paper)
* then evaluating the risk (does the paper conceal something, could a chemical agent be involved, is the PM in imminent harm

and then you are ridiculous enough to complain because he was led away in cuffs? Poor soul. If an officer HAD shot or tasered him (and well done to them for not doing so) I, for one, would have said "unlucky"

The BBC state;Prankster Simon Brodkin - also known as his TV persona Lee Nelson - was arrested by Greater Manchester Police after briefly interrupting the PM and giving her a sheaf of paper he claimed was from Boris Johnson.
He was later released, with the police saying he had "legitimate accreditation" to attend the event. So now Accredited legitimate Innocent folk can be gunned down willy nilly by under trained policeman, what a dystopian world you live in.

yes, I'm totally certain that his accreditation included the right to approach the PM!

That's like comparing a legitimate football fan in the Holmesdale and a moron who runs onto the pitch to remonstrate with the ref - he's at the event by right, but he's definitely overstepped the mark of what he's entitled to do.

Nerd moves gently toward the PM with a bit of paper.

Yes, he is very lucky to be alive. If that had been Trump he'd now have more holes than a Gary Glitter defence plea.

You are now disagreeing with the Greater Manchester Police who have made the decision that Simon Brodkin was there legitimately. Please read my post again I'm sorry that there are a few big words in there. At least I now know that approaching the P.M. is a crime.

Willo dear chap, this is a thread about your beloved conference, not anyone else's.

All HOL banter aside, enjoy your CPF(c) event. Remember that the country deserves better than Boris.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

Under section 4 of the Football Offences Act 1991, it states that it is an offence to go on to the playing area without lawful authority or excuse.

I don't believe the same is true of the fringe of the stage of the Tory party conference. It's also not a crime to be within a certain distance of the PM.

This wouldn't have happened if she was strong and stable and her government not in total disarray.

I'm not surprised you both agree that his speech was nothing but "Broadbrush, blustery bombastications."

His quips do little to cover up the fact that he's a self-interested shyster.

Why are you being derogatory to someone who has posted nothing like an insult towards you?

They're simply posting their opinion about the topic. You don't have to agree.

I would've thought something had been picked up by GMP or GCHQ before granting him his accreditation, more so than the name should've been flagged by the party itself. Hardly anyone knows him as Simon Brodkin.

Optimistic as ever

What he did was not acceptable.

If you accept this then you will be certain to get the same for Labour.....This is what happens.

Parties have a right to stage their conferences.
