Yes it was dreadful. We allowed Brighton to take the initiative from the start and then we were always second best. We missed the industrious Ayew. Batshuayi is a better finisher but not so good in open play although this should improve the more he plays. We have not replaced Cabaye a genuine ball player and McArthur and Riedewald are to similar to be really effective. I think we should appoint Eddie Howe as manager and keep RH on to organise the defence that Eddie is not that good at.

I think Riedewald is great at pass accuracy, and seems to be keeping Luka out of the team?

People have short memories. I've seen worse and we got something from it.

Why start a post with that line and then bother to debate?

Anyway we probably agree on more than you realise. Thus note my comments that I have no issue with strong shape and defence and hitting on the break but this requires us to actually try to hit on the break. Who cares how many shots so long as there's are rubbish and ours go in; but we need to have more than one!

On subject you overstate how good our team is. You really need to see how the other teams have pulled away in terms of squad improvement that has led us into relative decline. Note how much Brighton have invested over how much we have and please dont spout the old stuff about buying quality over quantity.

Also I note that those who (correctly) complain about our poor performance in the transfer windows are often the same posters who blame roy for our poor performance on the field.

Because it’s been done 100 times on here, and respectfully, it’s a point so easily disproved.. like I said, every team in the division plays more expansively than us to varying degrees, so unless your view is that our squad is considerably worst than any of the other 19 teams, the point that we have to play THIS conservatively to survive just doesn’t hold up.

We have an average squad and average expenditure at this level - Brighton, for example, may have outspent us on transfer fees over the last 2-3 years, but open that up to 5 and I’d be confident it’s a different story.. would also be very confident our wage bill is higher. In terms of correlation between finances and league positions, the wage bill bears a much stronger correlation, and ours is not even close to the bottom.

Man to man I reckon we have a better team than Brighton but on Sunday they got their tactics spot on and we just couldn’t cope. Every team in the division knows how we play now so it is so easy to prepare for us. Brighton played White (a defender) in midfield on Sunday and he just sat back when we countered and mopped everything up while Roy just watched on and changed absolutely nothing.

The whole game their main tactic was to get Lamptey on the ball and attack down the right so a simple solution would have been to get Schlupp off for Eze and let him play Zaha’s free role then get Zaha back on the left wing which would have pinned Lamptey back.

Disgraceful tactics and game management by Roy and he deserves every inch of the criticism he is receiving.

It’s certainly close, and that’s why I just can’t accept the narrative that this the best we can do.

Brighton also have managed to integrate Dunk, White, March, Connolly, Alzate and most recently Moloumby, from their academy into the first team.

Alzate was signed from L.Orient having been in their academy and Connolly was signed from a team in the Republic Of Ireland. Solly March was signed from Lewes.

Yes, and Brighton have managed to integrate them from their academy into first team, as I said.

I'm not entirely sure how much time these players spent in their academy.
Point I was making is that they were not players who joined their academy at a very young age like Zaha who joined our club aged 12.

Connolly was not signed from an Irish club. He played schoolboy football in Ireland then worked his way through the Brighton academy.

I think I really want to forget this match, I am usually a very good supporter and appreciative of Roy but on this occasion I think the criticism is valid and especially after his post match interview when he was full of praise for the way we defended whereas as far as I'm concerned it was fairly desperate defending that you would be more appropriate and is what you would expect from a lower league side player a cup tie against a higher league team. The last two games have been awful with a goal tally of 7 against and 2 scored. As bad as the tactics were from Roy, the players also have to accept responsibility for the performance, the BBC gave us an average rating of 4.81 compared to B&HA 6.36. The last two games Wilf has been useless and he really need to start setting examples for the others to follow!

I had heard he played for a youth team in Ireland before joining Brighton.

I will take your word that he worked his way through the Brighton academy - I don't tend to concentrate my efforts on expanding my knowledge to include Brighton players !
