If this strike had any justification the RMT and ASLEF members would have a picket line at the Selhurst Depot on Wednesday evening.

They've exploited hard working people for far too long. They are massively overpaid, and act like a mafia cartel.

This current run of strikes is purely down to the fact they know that technology will soon be introduced to make them all redundant.

Opinion not fact surely.

I am on the 468 now.

Thank you to all whom made this possible.

You are a credit to Britain.

Probably but also a healthy dose of logic, I'd say.

Not the second part of that statement. Almost all jobs like that will soon be redundant and many, many more.

...and i can just imagine the carnage pre and post match with a few thousand disgruntled fans having a pop, not too interested in their 'plight', more annoyed about their travelling being screwed up. It would actually be hilarious to watch. A bit like the last Midweek match vs brighton where the streets were cordoned off....

The train company is entitled to introduce any new technology it pleases. There are many services that operate driver only trains already and many of the proposed new driver operated door trains will still have guards.

The whole thing is political and a long term strategy by the unions to resist change.
Meanwhile the rest of us suffer and foot the bill.

If this is to be the case, what are the government planning to do with all the people for whom technology has made their jobs redundant. Will they be referred to as workshy and feckless?

It is an issue but right now we have almost full employment. There is a King Kanute feeling about this.

Likewise, what are the RMT and ASLEF (and Southern Rail) planning to do about all the people who lose their jobs through not being able to get to work? I'm sure it's already happened and will continue and increase as time goes on

They'll have to learn new skills that are required and change jobs. Automation will take existing roles, but it will create new ones around it.

Interestingly on the beeb they say:

Transport secretary Chris Grayling dubbed the action a "deliberate act of militancy" and claimed Aslef had warned him to expect "10 years of industrial action" at a meeting in September.

The response apparently is:
Aslef's general secretary Mick Whelan said: "The strikes this week are not, whatever Mr Grayling tries to suggest, politically motivated.

"We have a trade dispute with GTR Southern, and only a poor government would seek to spin it any other way.

"We were willing to go to ACAS last week but GTR Southern refused because they wanted to go to court.

No Denial of the 10 year of strikes that I can see
