Brian Kidd has just left Man City, he is about 103 years old but age is no barrier to success at Palace.

Great that this saga has finally ended. The timing is just about OK considering we are told the club is supposed to be engaging in some form of transformation. Don’t see why Viera, shouldn’t do all right , as long as he is given a decent squad to work with.

Really pleased Patrick Vieira has finally been confirmed as manager. A leader and a winner as a player, and held in the highest regard by many in the game. Any appointment was bound to divide opinion and be seen as a bit of a risk by some, but with what he brings to the table it's a risk I'm happy for the club to take. Hope he does really well. COYP!

Good luck to him. He'll need it. I'm utterly underwhelmed but unsurprised at the complete organisational clusterf*** our team has become.

Thanks for this Willo, but personally I'm never sure how much weight to attach to these analytical articles. Even if they are a good account of the tactics used at Nice, only time will tell if Vieira is married to those tactics wherever he goes, or if he devised them specifically to suit the players he had at that time and will use very different ones here. I cant see that making us the lowest crossing team in the league for instance (as the article says he did with Nice) will get the best out of Benteke, and whilst I'm sure the short passing game can be coached into the players, that doesn't make it the best fit for any of the squads we've had, not just recently but for as long as I can remember. If there was one single aspect of the recruitment process I'd love a bit more insight into, its whether the club ask the manager to explain his tactics in depth before they appoint him, or whether they accept that he will need to work with the players (and see who we can sign) before settling on a system of play. If it's the former then I'd love to know what Vieira told the club he would plan to do.

I agree with all this,Vieira knows the premier league inside out having won it three times. Lot of negativity going round about Patrick, but he is a proven winner and won't settle for 2nd best and will have everyones respect.
