It's always particularly funny when a Labour politician tries to lecture the Tories about the economy.

Dianne Abbott anyone?

Former Labour peer Lord Ahmed looks like he's going down.
Well he tried it 50 years ago and now it's happening again. He may well be someone's new special friend when he gets his.

I don't disagree, but like I said, you can't vote for Boris while claiming to care about language and niceness.

And this is the problem, do you not vote or take the best of a bad bunch?

I didn't vote in the last GE, predominantly because I lived in Lewisham at the time which is a nailed seat with 0 scope to change.

The whole system is a shambles - the sooner they get onto proportional representation, the better.

They tried that under the Coalition and it failed.

Moreover, the opposition on this site was all but unanimous.

This was mainly because they did not offer PR but a diluted version of it. I think people did not realise that this was a first step towards true PR and one that was palatable within our system as a transitional stage.

Unfortunately, it would have upset the 2-party dominance. Thus, the said 2 parties with vested interests piled all their resources into opposition and we had all the old myths about "weak" government etc. The public duly fell for it and the chance went, probably forever.

What was proposed was rubbish; but a better rubbish than the rubbish we have now.

I'm not surprised those on the right oppose PR as the current system has ensured we have a government further right than the population for most of the last 50+ years.

Now we are financially fecked and with financial competence being one of the supposed identifiers of the right maybe those that say these labels are out of date have a point.

Difficult to navigate discussions without them though.

I'd call the Tories a neo liberal party while I'd call Labour and the liberals progressive. Everyone took a considerable step to the left from their previous positions.

PR is a fairer system....but it's also a mess.

You will have to explain that one.

There was me thinking that we have had a majority of 'Right leaning' governments because Labour are currently and historically a bad joke.

Exactly.

People have short memories what about when Theresa May was held to ransom by the DUP plenty of complaints then about minority parties having too much influence. Then of course there was the famous Tory Lib Dem pact when free students fees got tossed out of the window a key plank in Clegg's manifesto.

PR means that minority parties get too big a say and the voters may find like the Lib Dems that what they voted for gets crushed immediately due to back room haggling.

Why didn't Tony Blair introduce PR he had plenty of time?

FPTP is not perfect by any means but as long as you have a majority government you get policial stability.
