And yet the same manager was happy to use him for most of his loan period last time despite the same failings. The offside goal and the won penalty on Sunday showed in a nutshell what Batshuayi is - an out-and out striker. He was also in position for a cross that Brighton managed to just cut out and so stop it reaching him in a bit of space.

Roy has complained about our conversion rate of chances. Batshuayi is the man who can improve that and I would hope Roy can see that.

Spot on. He got absolutely no service but the 2 decent balls that came his way, he won a peno and scored what would have been an absolute cracker if he had of ran a mili second later. He has to start from now on.

I want Batshuayi to start.
He’s our most natural goalscorer.
My question was whether Roy would play him.
If he persists with the current 4-4-2 with Zaha filling one of the front positions there is only one vacancy .
This would be between Ayew, Benteke and Batshuayi.
Ayew swept the board in player of the year awards last season, was top scorer and does all the defensive work Hodgson requires of his strikers.
Assuming Zaha starts up front I think Ayew will keep his place.
The system could change to 4-3-3 with Zaha, Ayew and Batshuayi but with two holding midfielders it’s going to be difficult to accommodate another Roy favourite, Schlupp,or Townsend in a midfield 3.
I’m also dubious that Eze would be trusted in a 3 man midfield.
Some would say these are nice selection problems to have, but in my opinion with Roy’s conservatism I can see a scenario where Batshuayi and Eze will not start as much as many fans would like.

a couple of thoughts that are tottering around in my head.

Is there a massive disconnect between Dougie and Roy? A lot of technically and/or naturally talented players that Dougie finds are not being used to get the best out of them. Is there any point in trying to get talented players in if Roy wants statues that can hold a shape for 90-minutes? If Dougie succumbs to that then we really are institutionally accepting his style at Palace. I'd imagine this would cause friction if Dougie is sourcing decent players only for them to be shackled.

Secondly, did Parish think he could get away with another season serving up dross football via Roy because the stadium would be empty every week? What's a few threads on here and a bit of critique from pundits, compared to tens of thousands of fans booing the team off? Much easier to deal with the former and keep yer head down.

My personal view is that Hodgson delivers for Parish in that he keeps the club in the PL on a shoestring, in the meantime us supporters are 'short-changed' by having to witness total and utter dross game, on game.As far as the club are concerned the end justifies the means.

I suspect that if Hodgson keeps us in the PL this season and wants to continue for another year the club will be only too glad to extend his contract.

Just watched Burnley v West Brom a turgid boring game, why people are calling for Dyche is a mystery, he plays exactly the same style as Roy.

What Chairman is going to sack a mid table manager, who ensured stability for 3 years?

Here, here.

people want to go more attack minded, but then want Dyche in? i'd rather stick with Roy, Thanks. Dyche is a sideways pass, when we need a throughball.

I agree. Most people seem to think Roy will go next summer, I’m not so sure if we survive

This extreme negative approach will not help build any future legacy at the club - no potential fan is going to watch a team that rarely has a pop on goal, let alone enticing any decent attack minded players. Hodgson will be gone soon enough, hopefully we won't be relegated by then.

One thing for Dyche though. Surely he would shout at the players and say it outright to the press that our performance was shyte. Sick of hearing 'we were good defensively until they scored...'

There is also a tipping point when something becomes untenable. It's usual for the fans to reach that point before the powers that be, as they are looking at things through a different lens. However, as some point the growing utterings will become a noise that Parish can no longer ignore or block out. I expect we'll reach that point during the season and hope Parish will be working on a replacement to come in at the end of the season, assuming we can limp over the finish line once more. There comes a time in this season where it's risky to change the manager in case it upsets our depressing-yet-effective points tally.

We spend 78% of our turnover on wages. There are ageing players with hardly any or no resale value.
There are players on high wages who are not delivering but we haven't been able to move them on, in actual fact in the case of Benteke his contract was extended probably because of the fear that he would be available on a 'Free' !

We are not a club willing to back the manager in the transfer market - Our Net Spend over the last 4 seasons has been some £10 Mill.
Zaha will not command the high transfer fee any more and there is a 25% Sell-on clause as well.
A great deal of negatives!

Dyche is unarguably more attack minded than Roy - he’s just direct. Their approach is about getting balls into the box, and invariably these leads to chances and goals. They’re also far more dangerous from set pieces.

If you can find it have a look at the thread from when they beat us at Selhurst last year.. they played us off the park.

They also have a vastly inferior squad to us on paper.
