I've long since realised that you can't argue with some of these people: It isn't about reason for them. Now I only engage with the ones who have more brain cells than fingers.

What nonsense is this? I don't think anyone is intolerant to a different skin colour bud. It just isn't worth engaging with such a simple minded suggestion.

All it has highlighted is that you are afraid to debate on subjects where you are incapable of offering a sound argument, which is also probably why you rarely post in this section and when you do, you start a lame thread like this one. Good work. Good work.

He thinks halal meat is cruel and wont use subway or KFC as they use halal. People on these shores illegally should pay for their health care. There are others but you cant be bothered to read them unless the above makes you inquisitive of course. As articles are always written from a perspective they are never a reliable way to assess anything like this. Context is everything and unless you have access to all the information any assessment is a rush to judgement at best. There are always rights of independent review and appeal too, to ensure no-one is treated unfairly. That's why I don't always read opinion pieces.

Anyone suggesting that a current legal situation should be accepted which can see a man arrested for publically reading from one of Churchill's books.......Well I suggest that they are on the wrong side of the argument. A state where the Police arrest you for posting rap lyrics or bad taste jokes is not a society that is free. The abuses of freedom of speech in this country....the creeping censorship both by digital monopolies and government is stark......and anyone suggesting that these are realities that should be accepted is simply supporting the imposition of an illiberal state of affairs. The argument that with free speech comes responsibilities is a low resolution argument. Only free speech absolutists argue for no restrictions at all. However the bar on free speech has previously also operated upon the notion that outside of 'incitement to violence', 'libel' and 'obscenity' that speech should be allowed...The bar on speech should be protected from people with 'hurt' feelings...those that cry offence should not be able to dictate what is allowed in the public space......But now that compact has been broken and the bar to legal consequences has been shifted to the extent that 'perception' of offence is now included. This is not something the Tories ever previously supported and indeed, it isn't something the old far left use to support either. But we are currently living in an era where both those camps have been subverted......and we live with the ridiculousness of Tories advocating for rules that see readers of Churchill arrested. Now the support of traditional 'free speech' has become mostly a 'real' right issue....though I will add that small sections of the left also advocate that these new restrictions are wrong.
This is the kind of wrong thinking which seems at the heart of this problem. Churchill was a great man. Flawed in many ways but a man of his time without whom the UK, and the world would probably be a different place today. No doubt there is much wisdom in his books. That though is beside the point. There is wisdom in the Bible and the Quran too but if you select passages from any of them and then read them with a particular emphasis, in a place and style to an audience with known views the words could well be considered inflammatory or even hate speech. Context is everything. It's the words that matter and not who wrote them. Muslim preachers have been arrested after quoting from the Quran. There are passages from the Old Testament that taken out of context can be used against people. Look at the Westboro Baptist Church! So nothing can be taken at face value. The whole needs to be known. We don't know the whole circumstances, we only know the bits we are being fed to support a narrative. The responsible media do try to get behind a story and verify it's authenticity but the sensationalist media, and those with axes to grind on social media, don't. So just because a story is circulated that supports an idea that your political group is being denied free speech doesn't make it so. All it does is point up the level of fake and unreliable information that is around and the need to look for reliable, verified sources.

[Link] If I'm worried why the establishment covered up for such a long time that we had muslim grooming gangs, does that make me right wing? I would genuinely be interested why Laddo and Pussy band around racism and right wing claims. Can't white people be openly annoyed with Muslim Asian grooming gangs? Sikh communities are annoyed are they right wing?

You seek to justify a situation that didn't exist before where 'perception' of offence can be a legal device. A man was arrested for reading from a Churchill book and you defend that situation while calling yourself a 'traditional Tory'. He can have a million flaws, it matters not a bit....if the land he fought for has somehow twisted itself in that state of affairs, then it isn't him who is flawed.
