I was comparing the tactical approach of defending without committing players forward and boring the opposition to death.

And I can’t name any of the Greek team because there was no pleasure in watching them play despite them being ‘winners’.
Whereas I can recall great ‘losing’ teams such as Brazil and Holland because of the pleasure they brought.

The broader point being made is that football for me is about enjoyment and pleasure as well.
I accept that some fans don’t feel this way and don’t care how we play.

The football played under e.g Peter Taylor and Trevor Francis was dire but they were working with inferior players and I don’t think Hodgson has that excuse.
Hodgson is working with a far superior group of players and should be capable of setting us up to produce more attacking threat than demonstrated in recent games. To be able to play for a win rather a draw at home to the team 3rd from bottom.
Is that really too much to ask.

I actually can't believe you're comparing us to the Greek side that won a knockout competition... Bizarre analogy..

Yes. And what he actually said was play for a nil nil, as he didn’t expect us to score. Looking forward to what he sets as a target on Wednesday.

We have a Roy out thread here, yet many are blaming the board for our current situation. Fulham fielded a better team than us today which doesn’t resemble the side we beat at Craven Cottage earlier in the season. With an incredible 7 loanees on the pitch at one time this is a last role of the dice for them, yet they still couldn’t beat us.

We would be a different proposition if we had our best 11 on the pitch which we all seem to conveniently forget. So shouldn’t we judge Roy when he has his best 11 to choose from along with some backing from the board which has been clearly lacking for over 3 years now?

2/3 years ago we played some good football under Hodgson - not every week but often enough for us to be reasonably happy with things. The problem is that those players are now older, slower, more prone to injury and past their best and yet many fans seem to think they should still be able to play at a higher level.
Hodgson (or any other manager who might replace him) can only use what's available and let's face it, at present it ain't a lot.
The summer business (including decisions regarding the management team) will determine where we will be heading next year. I fear that the board will not do enough.

Brighton play lovely football and create lots of chances and a percentage of fans want Potter out.

Would you rather we have 60 shots on goal in 3 games and score 1 goal?

Or

5 shots on goal on 3 games and score 2 goals?

Goals this season
Palace = 29
Brighton = 26

They don't always give an accurate account of how a teams has played. For instance saw this yesterday. At halftime Team X had just TWO attempts on target in 45 minute scoring from one of them, Sounds familiar doesn't it?

Would you have guessed it was Man City?

Coming back with some boardroom meeting jargon about streamlining, effeciency and downsizing blah, blah, blaaaaah......Veeeeery clever!!

But anyway, getting back to the narrative. The team (most of which are Internationals) with an MVP player and one in the making, one of the best keepers in the league, a top ten team on paper may I add, not fighting, playing or wanting to play for the manager(even the managers mindset is draining, how do you think that relays throughout the squad), with so many leaving with no contingency plan in sight (just like all the previous transfer windows & manger searches)

Like I said, nothing remotely interesting!!

If you think the injury prone, partly fast approaching geriatric squad we have is good enough for top 10 you’re a fantasist.

Agree, I was talking about points rather than performance. And the goals scored compared to BHA. I was bored to tears with the Fulham game for example but PL survival trumps everything IMHO

Would also mention many on here had already given Fulham 3 pts before the game started

Yes, he actually said ‘0-0 at home to Fulham was the best we were going to be able to get from today’...

I’m now firmly in the the Roy OUT camp and hope it’s simply a case of Parish letting his contract run down and saying ‘thank you very much, all the best’.

I cannot and would not go to Selhurst to watch that sh*te live. I spent the preceding days really looking forward to Sunday and watching the game but the reality was, it was just more of the same utter rubbish. Heroic defending yes and some effort put in by the majority of the team but the actual ‘performance’ was awful, like so many of ours over the last season and a half.

I simply do not subscribe to the bizarre theory promoted time and time again on here that Roy is the only person in the world who can keep this team up. Even if he were, does anyone seriously want to be that bored, embarrassed, underwhelmed and frustrated watching our team play week in week out?!

brace yourselves for the fact that Roy will more than likely be in charge next season , because believe it or not he is actually doing the job he is asked to do by his boss and they are happy because ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS STAY IN THE LEAGUE.

You'd better have a word with the chairman then as he stated that we shouldn't be content with just struggling to stay in the Premier League but should be thrusting onwards and upwards

The majority feel that Roy should go at the end of the season, and I am of that group. He has done his job, with little support from SP and a very ineffective board.

I wouldn’t be too confident of someone new taking the hot seat and being a success. Who would be your choice Phil?

And I'll keep bashing.

The sad truth of Premier League is that you need infrastructure. And to get that you need money. And to get that you need to stay in the Premier League. I am 100% certain mr. Parish has several funding plans, where relegation is taken into consideration. And I am sorry to tell you, running a Premier League team is not simple. Hence the status quo where we are just above the relegation battle is actually a solid business plan.

That being said, I understand the need to have our team play entertaining football. All I am saying is that at this point (if you want Palace to seriously challenge euro places) that is not feasible. We cannot buy the team to do that. And staying at steady 12th-14th is fiscally sensible. Even though it means dull Roy-ball.

I think that's the point. It doesn't have to mean Dull Roy ball.

I'm of the opinion that If we build on the work of last 2 windows - which have show some good intentions, Eze, Mateta, ferguson, and a host of good academy prospects, then we can slowly turn this around. If this happens, i can see RH staying another year.
