It is possible that Roy did not put Townsend on because he is still not 100 % fit. With a two week break coming he may have felt it wiser in the long run to give him a few more weeks before playing him.? COYP

I agree.

I agree, six or seven points should be enough, but Roy has to be more adventurous at home and start playing Townsend and Wilf together.

I disagree. We might need 40 points to stay up. Apart from Norwich, the other relegation rivals are averaging close to one point per game, putting them on 38 points by the end of the season.

Then why have him on the bench? Why not have Pierrick there instead? A point on Saturday might have made all the difference come May - bring on Kouyate was never going to get us a goal.

Yep, I don't quite get it. He was fit for a cameo against SU but not fit for a start or substitute appearance against Everton when he was clearly needed. As you say, if he is not fit at all then he shouldn't be on the bench.

I find it extraordinary that Pierrick, who did extremely well in a cameo appearance, hasn't featured since. This, plus the dropping of an in-form Jairo convinces me that RH doesn't know what he is doing.
It cannot be said that he doesn't have options.

Brighton are struggling and so are Watford now, two teams above us with thirty one points are not better then us, we are only struggling to put the ball into the net, we are creating chances and putting teams under enough pressure to cause them to make mistakes, Hodgson is not to blame for the misses and cock ups in front of goal, also he is not to blame for our keeper dropping the ball over the line ..that one point would've had us eleventh in the table as we write.

The zero attempts on target and zero corners at home to Southampton clearly illustrate that this is not the case. As do other recent home performances against BHA, Derby County & SUFC.

PVA is his first-choice left-back who has chipped in with goals this season, both away from home, and scored 4 goals last season.

It is very dispectful to suggest that Hodgson, steeped in experience does not know what he is doing but of course we have all raised eyebrows at certain decisions.Perhaps Hodgson on reflection has concluded that on occasions he has erred as we probably all have done in our working lives.

Perhaps you missed this post from yesterday, which clearly illustrates it is most definitely NOT simply a case of just struggling to put the ball in the net!

Not contesting the role of PVA, but perhaps the number of points gained since Jairo was dropped is mere coincidence?
If Hodgson on reflection has concluded that on occasions he has erred, then it seems reasonable to assume that he can correct those errors - is he capable, or is he stuck in his one trick pony ways?

It has been suggested that Guardiola only has a 'Plan A' so maybe some deem he is a "One trick pony" !

Since Hodgson has been at the helm there have been 17 arrivals and 12 of those have been 'Frees' or 'Loans'. The rest have not cost much more than £15 Mill so he has hardly been backed in the transfer market.Despite this, he has secured 12th and 11th place finishes and it doesn't seem that long ago when we were 5th this season.

I totally accept that it has gone pear-shaped in the last 10 games and that the football has been dour but whilst we are 6 pts from the drop zone we are also 6 pts from 7th place!

We are not scoring goals and failing to keep a clean sheet in 10 games is a PL record and such a mixture is a recipe for relegation.

Only issue Willo, is that I can't see where the next win is going to come from. Every team we play is motivated by the fact that they see us as a straight forward opportunity for a victory. I think they used to view us as hard to break down and difficult to score against, however we appear to have lost that defensive edge from our game now.

Watch every team close us down quickly in our own half and see as we go side to side and eventually back to Guaita who just aimlessly boots it back up the field. We are very easy to close down because we only have an outlet on the left and as most teams double team Wilf, so that becomes a dead end. If we bought any player at all during the window then it should have been a quality winger to bring some balance back to the team. We are currently way too predictable.
