How odd that many of the alleged local angry protesters were wearing masks and hoods - why did they need to protect their identities as "angry locals"? Could it be that they were part of the juvenile trouble-makers who always get dragooned into protests like these, publicly called upon by the Marxist Shadow Chancellor too? Only asking, honest.

The SWP are getting coated over the mic. Being told not to Co opt the protest.
People are ripping the top off of the placards.

It's about proper building regulations and them being actioned, involving the correct people. Having a competent local council. fire alarms in buildings, sprinklers, fire containing materials and not highly flammable ones. Correct instructions on signage and regular alarm tests and drills. These should be required for all buildings so there is no option to avoid or loss of profits because competitors won't.

That is what I first think when I think about this, not welfare. From what I've heard the flats had 4 bedrooms, but obviously death traps, and when I hear the sad stories of people and firemen escaping and what they saw, again I think of the fire safety.

Am I wrong?

2016 - Conservatives vote against a Labour motion to make sure all landlords and housing associations ensure residences are fit for human occupation, including provisions for fire safety. The motion is denied by 312 votes to 219. 72 of the MP's voting against are landlords.

Why were they so lax? When were they last updated, before new products come out? Don't we have the british standards kitemark anymore?

Yes although my point was about Lammy going into welfare and it as a safety net. He didn't really have anything to say that relates to this apart from the safety of housing, a very specific area of welfare, or not even really welfare at all as it should be a law enforced regulation, not a policy or level of welfare that changes depending on government.

Sleep.

Interesting. No wonder Khan has been keeping relatively quiet. Some of his Mayoral financial backing was from the same said company who owned the tower block.

Where did you see this? I see the new Labour MP for the area was on their board too.

It looks like there might be plenty of blame all round.

Given what looks to me like criminal incompetence, I wonder if we will see corporate manslaughter charges like we tend to see here.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Actually I read the article incorrectly, but If it wasn't that company It could of been either of these.

Given his position on the topic, that's not really much better.

No Nick, it's not an argument, it's an observation.

This is being politicised, disgraceful, they call for an investigation, they have already made their minds up, blaming the tories, which may end up being true, but the inquiry should decide who is to blame, when manchester , borough market happened, it was all keep calm dont proportion blame blah blah blah

A salient point and it just shows the hypocrisy of that kind of 'progressive'.
