20 years ago when Croydon was fairly decent for pubs and clubs, if palace were on tv you would be lucky to get more than 3 groups of fans in somewhere. Liverpool, Chelsea, arsenal or utd playing, the pubs would be full. Croydon is full of Chelsea and arsenal fans, they seem to think as they're London clubs they're better than the glory hunting utd supporters. For me they're all the same. Don't understand people who don't support their local club.

As a youngster visiting family in Sutton , Cheam , Carshalton and Mitcham nearly everybody was a Chelsea fan and considering the proximity and links to Selhurst park I found this annoying... My question is.......How did you slip through the net? Edited by dreamwaverider (07 Mar 2024 5.04pm)

The MLS is s***e. The leagues below that are worse and there is no promotion/relegation. Most in the USA support the "big" clubs. ManCity, ManU, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. I think it's actually kind of admirable for anybody not anywhere near SE25 to support Crystal Palace. It's not like we're in it for the glory and the trophies. I can't claim to be born into it, but I'm Palace til my dying day. But maybe that's because I'm odd.

I'm living and working over here in County Tyrone, near the Donegal border so I'm spreading the goodness as best I can.

I am lucky enough to have lived in different parts of England, Nigeria and the US. In terms of the US, around 2015/2016 I did notice more of an awareness and appreciation for Palace. Maybe this was because of the cup run under Pardew (I kept seeing the 1-0 win over Spurs in that run all over the sports channels in the US for some reason). Maybe it was some amazing matches we had like Crystanbul. This was around the same time that Blitzer and Harris invested in us so that might be a factor. It cannot have done much harm for our awareness/fanbase in the US when Gregg Berhalter got the USMNT job and there was likely media coverage of his playing career. In terms of Nigeria, it was more a case of "who is this team that keeps causing problems for my beloved Arsenal/Chelsea?"

Although I was born in Sydenham ( Scots father meets local girl on VE Day) I was raised in Scotland and never met another Palace fan up here until a couple of years ago when my mum passed and the guy who came to clear her house was from Croydon. My brother was wearing his Spurs top and the guy announced that he supported the best team in London, the mighty Crystal Palace!

I'm making a pilgrimage (400 miles away) to see us play Wolves near Baltimore on the 31st, so I'll report back on the fan support. In the NY-Boston areas, PL fans tend to follow Liverpool, Man United, Spurs, and Man City. I expect Wolves followers to outnumber ours, but we'll make more noise.

Trips to the East Africa were full of nights in bars surrounded by indigenous folks supporting Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U & Liverpool, occasionally you would come across an Expat who had made their home there & would still be supporting their home town team. Originally posted by RubinsCube
