The never blame Parish disease has been in existence for many years now on the various Palace sites.
His inexperience was a fair excuse for mistakes in the early days but he has had a long time to understand how football works or employ people who do.

It is fair to say that his record speaks for itself in terms of promotion and keeping us up, but one cannot help but feel that his over careful attitude and occasional naivety has also held us back at times.

If he sorts out the contract issues and signs some quality players this Summer, which keeps us up once again, then he will get my vote going forward.
I would also add that the new stand marathon needs sorting out and soon.

Its a bit like someone being saved from drowning, then years later as they havent bought you a new house, stabbing them in the back. As without them saving you, you wouldnt have to put up with not getting what you want.
The club is in safe hands with Parish, not going to challenge to win anything, but safe. Wolves spent £214m since promotion, but ended up one point ahead of us last season. Not a great return on investment, but they dont want to win anything either, just develope Mendes clients and sell on at a profit.
The wish for billionaire owners is fanciful, they dont use their own money, just refinance the club and borrow against the assets, which is how Burnley was purchased.
Parish has mede mistales, who hasnt, but I doubt he will lead us into administration, like the previous 2 Chairmen.

Leicester yes, wolves were a point above us and villa have had one good season. There starting point is also a bit further on than ours all have bigger fan bases and better facilities/ stadiums.
For every Wolves, Villa and Leicester there is a Birmingham, Portsmouth, Coventry city, Wigan, Charlton etc.

Leicester - agree. They have that rarity - billionaire owners who seem to care about both the club and its local community.

Villa - currently throwing money at trying to become a big club. Too early to judge the outcome - revisit in 2 or 3 years.

Wolves - Really? Let's see how they fare now Nuno's gone and once we have a clearer picture of what Mendes's future role in that club will be, if any. I can see Wolves making a return to the Championship in the not too distant future despite the £200m spent on getting into the PL and trying to stay there.

What a soppy analogy - but sort of predictable and expected, from one of HOL's leading sycophants

Jackson.. Wan Bissaka.... Sansom.. Nicholas.. Cannon.. Guehi.... Zaha... Thomas.. Byrne... Holton.. Rogers.. that should do it..

Oddly enough most pundits are saying that about us with no manager, half the squad out of contract, our best player wants out and our second best player injured until the new year

I'm not sure that it's a bit like anything of the sort.

The buck stops with Parish however you rate him. He can't continue to live on past success when making new mistakes, but neither should he be judged unfairly as the chairman of a medium sized club.

It is not easy to take giant leaps without giant cash.

Depends who you benchmark him against. We've certainly done a better job in terms of managers than Watford and Brighton who are the best two sides to draw a direct comparison with. Numerous others have fallen by the wayside since 2010 when we were 40th in the league system and unsustainable, now we are consistently around 15th pretty solid.

At the time all appointments on paper were fairly sensible. Warnock and Hodgson were both put in with mitigating circumstance. Holloway and Pardew get the most criticism but were both poached from clubs higher in the league and delivered relative success.

With the 13 players out of contract. Henderson, Wickham, Woods, Hennessey are surplus to requirements. 7 out of the remaining 9 are over 30 and none are vital 1st team players. Personally, I wouldn't bother renewing PVA's contract with Mitchell and Reidewald able to play in his position. It's unlikely Ward/Clyne will leave unless a replacement is signed so right back is covered. I think Schlupp and Townsend will sign new deals.

That brings the total down to 4. McCarthy has looked tidy but always injured - no big issue. Sakho/Dann/Cahill aren't all required - no need to panic.

I'd say that possibly that having 4 owners is/was as much a help as a hindrance. One thing for certain is that Parish takes on board fans POV- and probably why we are now managerless is because fans were fed up with Roy's MO.

Parish is probably as much a business man as a football man, and that is no bad thing.

He is the best chairman we have had since I started supporting the team in the late 70s. I cannot think of anyone else who has come close...

He could always do some things better, but he will not let our club be held to ransom by any player or manager and that's not easy to do in a world where everyone wants everything now.

Glazier, please tell me who you think has done a better job than Parish as I find your thread an easy dig with no thought for where the club has come from and the restrictions we have in place to ensure we do not end up going down that horrible road again. I suggest you watch the recent Amazon documentary to jog your memory.

Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Spot on.

He is not perfect but he has done a pretty good job thus far. Okay, I’m as impatient as the next man for a new manager announcement but I don’t want the quick announcement of a sh1t one. Take our time and get it right - and tbf his previous appointments have earned him the benefit of my doubt.

I’ll happily moan about him when he screws up and gets it wrong - but in 40 odd years I can’t think of a better chairman than SP. (okay I also accept some may suggest that’s because the others were dire)!

Spot on. Took the words right out of my mouth. SP is a businessman. Reading some of the posts on this topic, you'd think he ran Palace as a charity.

In many ways, Palace overachieves, given the economic fundamentals. My point was simply that if Palace is to reach the 'next level', it needs more investment than the current incumbent seems able to provide. He runs a financially tight ship and has probably taken the club as far as he can. But can we stop all this 'local boy made good' twaddle? There's little room for sentiment in the game at this level and emotion can as often cloud the judgement as enhance it. Leicester supporters don't seem too bothered by the Chairman's being moneyed and not particularly local...
