The gambling thing is out of hand now. As with all large industries they've taken advertising to new depths by normalising betting as part and parcel of the game. Even their 'Be bet aware' stuff is predicated on the notion that we will all be betting rather than not. Awful, sneaky pernicious bollocks, the lot of it. Why can't we just have virgin on our shirts again? Back in the day I felt like that shirt said quite a lot about me...

Any sporting event now is wall to wall Chinese and Malaysian etc gambling sites. Reminds me of our little floodlight incident too - it was us wasn't it? Memory fading. I have that Virgin shirt - although the ladies in my neck of the woods were very generous. I miss those very obliging English beauties.

What do they do these days, They still sponsor big athletic events and concerts... they make internal devices for electronics - mobiles too. Honestly, I would love to see it on the front of a shirt, even if it meant renaming selhurst... but I appreciate my emotions aren't with everyone

I remember the outrage when it was renamed the Manbet stadium

I remember reading an article a couple of years ago on LinkedIn by Barry Webber who said that the benefit of approaching a lot of these off shore betting companies is that they generally have a small management board that can approve large sponsorship deals in a matter of weeks. Established household brands can take months, if not years, to negotiate deals for kit sponsorship.

I've owned and worn a few replica shirts over the years, though I can't remember the last one I got. I've always found it dubious that I have to pay good money to advertise some company. I've still got a home shirt with no sponsor from about twenty years ago. If memory serves, the sponsor we had signed with went bust on the eve of the season, so the shirts were released without one. At the time it was a pain in the arse for the club as we were skint, but it was a once in my lifetime opportunity to own a current but unsullied replica shirt. I remember being surprised at how many fans didn't want a sponsorless shirt. I couldn't understand that. In the end the club signed up with a new sponsor, and asked supporters to bring their empty shirts to the club shop where you could queue up to get the new sponsors logo printed on your shirt! When I say 'printed' I really mean ironed on using the kind of cheap, crappy labelling products available in Woolworths. The cheeky b******s even stressed that this fantastic opportunity was being made available to supporters free of charge for a limited period! My only regret is that the shirt itself isn't one of our better ones.

Why not Sainsbury's ? If they refuse offer Aldi or Lidl a cut price deal and put two fingers up to them? On a serious note, one of the upcoming minor banks ? Other financial institutions say FairFX or Caxton, especially if travel is permitted after lockdown. Anything but another betting company !

I guess this is a step in the right direction.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

First was us away at west ham, then wimbledon home to Arsenal, and then charlton v Liverpool at selhurst park. The last one went wrong as a friend of charlton worker bubbled to the feds, jealous fcucker, lots of malaysian and chinese made a mint apparently back home.
