Well said. I’m personally sick to death of hearing, “you should be grateful”, “remember what it used to be like”, “be careful what you wish for”, “we’ll be like Charlton if we expect too much”.

We are there, we are at the top table, forget about the past as the past is irrelevant, we need to push on. Our current target should be to become more like Leicester and less like Burnley. I want teams fearing us when they come to our ground, not attacking us for 90 minutes and using us for target practice.

The past is only irrelevant if its lessons have been learned.

Spot on re wanting this to stop.

I recall Noades literally sitting at the top table when the premiership was born. And look how that ended. Relegation, the richer clubs picking off our best players, 2 administrations and then touch and go as to whether we would be the first major club to fold.

I have said this before and been scoffed off. Being born from financial ruin has shaped CPFC 2010 Limited. It has made us prudent and cautious and our few unsuccessful forays into marquee signings have been followed by a withdrawal back into prudence and caution.

Pundits and fans alike hate this survive without breaking the bank attitude which has led to an old squad and some of the most uninspiring, anti-football ever to grace the top flight. However, I believe we are a product of our not too distant past and never want to go back there.

If I am right then those impatient for a quick fix, major investment and a rapid change to foxy football are in for further disappointment.

I think you ARE right! As much as I have loved riding the Palace roller coaster over the past five decades, I derive very little pleasure from watching them these days.

I've already committed £200 towards my 2021/22 season ticket and I'll qualify for an OAP discount for the first time. I'll definitely see this one through and enjoy the experience but I have more or less decided it will be my last one.

my brother in law is Italian from naples, was a napoli season ticket holder before he moved to the UK. He thinks the PL is like Seria A in the 90's, all the money but eventually goes all dull, the top teams win everything, the rest like us need to stay in the top league for the money. Us fans are no longer relevant as the top clubs make money without us being there. I would much rather go and watch Crawley play at least its proper football, rather then us. At least they try and win games.

Sometimes I set out for Ludlow
Sometimes I end up in Chepstow

As someone who has supported the club for over 65 years I have a rather different perspective than some posters. So I agree with you. From where we were when it started for me to now is a hugely successful journey, which could so easily have ended completely a few short years ago. We are now in a phase where holding onto our place in the Premier League outweighs everything else. We have established a promising Academy, which can draw on a wide area of talent, which can feed through to the first team. We have plans to gradually modernise the stadium. These things take time. Right now the football can be painful to watch but the prize is worth the pain. The biggest challenge seems to me to be in this position in 12 months time. If we can do that then the next 10 years could be really exciting.

Yes indeed, all the fans that want our manager gone fail to understand completely that the problems they moan about have absolutely nothing to do with him, he basically doesn't need to or have to care about what they're saying because he is achieving the task that is desired from him even with possibly our most disruptive squad ever in the top league, the problem is all the fans that appreciate Mr Hodgson understand the situation with our players and the fans that want Mr Hodgson gone see our players as perfectly able to achieve success on the pitch and aren't able to do so because of the manager, they even go on and on and on about players that were allowed to leave blaming our manager for not using them lol.

They just have to wave at our best players and off they go lol, money money money.

That's why just surviving is good enough at the moment, it'll allow us time to work on attracting the better managers and players rather then waste time and effort and lots of money trying to get us out of the Championship again, we will look awful again tonight but at least we are an awful looking premier league team which is well placed to encourage improvement in the entertainment department.
If nothing much happens during the summer then we will all understand that our club has to be relegated in order to come back.
