i agree, i was embarrassed too - we couldn't string 2 passes together for most of the game. Yes we were inferior but we shouldn't be - almost all of those players are on £50k plus a week so should be able to pass and move etc. If we play the same tactics we will lose most games. We had loads of luck last night. Even Benteke's great goal was because he was merely lingering at the back post rather than making an attempt to attack the cross Tekkers was being marked on the edge of the box then he peeled away to the back post, Brighton were banking on Andros sending over one of his s*** crosses, but for once he found our man.... 2-1 have it!

It only takes a second to score a goal.

Roy has just said on Sky Sports that he was pleased with the set up. Really? Without a world class performance from Cahill we would have lost heavily. It was embarasing to watch, especially Eze's performance, who Roy is squeezing the flair out of.
Let's keep the ball this season! |

At least the players tried. That's about all we need to stay up. Our tactics and execution were terrible. But Brighton just can't score. You can see how we lost 3-0 to Burnley. What's hilarious is that you could say our strikers were clinical. It's been a while since that could be said.

It is of course, and Hodgson has to be given credit here. The tactics worked. I mean they are the same tactic every week, but they worked. However surely none of us want to continue with this? It was very sad seeing us torn to shreds like that last night, the football we were playing was soul destroying. It seemed to me that it was a match up between the football forces of good against evil. Evil prevailed last night. A guy on NSC agrees with you called it ‘triumph of evil over good’

What I would say is embarrassing is how we had two shots on target and they both went in, with first Mateta and then Bentenke making mugs of Brighton's so-called 'great defence'. It is the one game where I imagine neither set of supporters gives a flip how you win, just that you win In fact, it almost makes it more hilarious - rather than embarrassing - that we have won in this manner! If we do the same for the remainder of the season then we can go back to complaining, but for now let's just savour that sweet 95th minute ecstasy.

I'm not sure where the embarrassment comes into it. The bigger picture is that whilst one might be frustrated, fed up and bored with watching us play football, the evidence increasingly shows that anti-football is an effective strategy for a club with a budget in the lowest third of the league, whilst possession football, or open attacking football (not the same thing) are very far from proven to work for anyone in that same financial bracket. I'm not embarrassed that we realise that and Brighton don't. I wish it wasn't so, and hope that we will find a way to do it differently, but that's another matter. On last night alone, we certainly stole the win but let's not forget that before Benteke scored we had already earned, through our system and performance, the draw we went there to get. That's the draw that would have kept us three points ahead of them, and them 16th to our 13th, with us missing several key players and them in good recent form. I wasn't embarrassed by how we played at all. Bored and frustrated perhaps, but see above.

There's no simple answer. RH is absolutely correct that high possession stats don't mean a thing if you lose and people are right to wonder whether playing anti-football is enough.

It is amazing our lot has collected 32 points. Because the last couple of games has been absolute rubbish - our players can hardly string two passes together. Now I am pretty sure we will avoid relegation this season, but the coming months and summer will decide for how long.

Some people are never happy, what's embarrassing is quoting the stat, what is the point, what is the OP trying to prove, he can read stats FFS. We have 4 pts, Brighton have 1pt from the two games. As RH said post match, there are no prizes for possession, corners etc, only goals count.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Not looking for Potterball before it’s possible, and when we do pass it around we wait for the opposition to all get behind the ball so we have everyone behind the ball just further up the pitch. It’s understandable for some of the matches but not all 38.
