What seems to have been lost is the point of the original poster’s position.
He’s not disputing whether Roy has met his objectives.
He’s not suggesting we should be higher in the table.
He’s not demanding Roy’s head.
He’s not suggesting that we’re not punching our weight.
He’s merely asking us to play the more attractive football we’ve shown we’re capable of this season more frequently, and allow Zaha and Eze off the leash.
Not really that controversial.

Maybe not, but Hodgson isn't going to change the habits of a lifetime. I don't think he even knows what to do with Eze, apart from playing him out of position. It's pure chance and bad luck for Schlupp that Eze got introduced after Schlupp's injury - however note how Eze gravitated to the centre of the field when he went on his run, not down the line. Why? Because that is his natural position. Poor square peg round hole Roy doesn't get it though.

Hi Guys , look I have been watching palace since Div 3 South days and can safely say this is the best it's been.
I agree that there is not a plan B and that with the financial constraints which are in place Roy is doing a decent job.
But for goodness such why oh why do we sometimes have to wait til half-time before we start playing , surely the players should know their orders from minute 1 .It almost looks as though they are told don't f**k up which puts the frighteners on them. As far as Riedewald is concerned he was brilliant , recalled for international duty then dropped for a work horse which is typical Roy

Patrick..thanks for you support after my original post.
I read such a lot of negative stuff on this forum and I strongly believe that seeing the glass half full is always a better way of living life.
With that in mind all I was saying is that we should up the anti with regards to our teams style of playing football.
We have such a talented squad..and some very talented youngsters who compliment our more senior players...free them up a bit to play more attacking football...I am not suggesting we drop all of our defensive attributes but just go for it a bit more..let’s face it in the games we have played using negative tactics we have lost...so nothing to lose.
Nothing wrong with wanting to see our team play more attractive looking football!

Its getting the balance right though isnt it. We thought we could go toe to toe with liverpool and get back into that game and they just went through us like a hot knife through butter. Was interesting to see us pressing sheff U high up the pitch when we were 2 up and confident that we had the match won.

It is about balance. The balance has to be based on defenders that can attack without being constantly caught out. And attackers that can defend seriously, and can retain the ball well in most situations.
Palace ,are not there yet. On both counts. Of course we can pull it off against some oppositions. But as we have seen recently against both Liverpool, and Villa,, the attacking intent was there , the balance was not. And in the second half of both games we paid dear.
Tactics don’t fetch brilliant performances on the whole ability does, and when put to a serious test we don’t have quiet enough of it throughout the side. to be able get the balance needed to play in an attractive style week in week out.

Next up....... Mrs Willo joins the Hol to answer the ‘old bird’ throwaway line and give her opinions on a young Willo and why she fell for him. Will the dictionary figure??

In the final analysis, we play in a 'Tired' old stadium with one of the lowest capacities in the PL.

The much heralded 'Stadium Re-Development' in essence consists of a much-needed replacement for an ancient rickety stand, not a complete overhaul to modernise Selhurst Park and of course the building work is yet to get off the ground.
We don't have state-of-the-art training facilities enjoyed by other PL clubs and we have only quite recently attained 'Category 1' status for the academy.
We have an aged squad with little or no sell-on value for many of the players and I believe 78% of our income is spent on wages.
Our 'Net Spend covering this season and the previous 3 seasons has been about £10 Mill.

This is the reality and against this backdrop Mr Hodgson has secured PL survival for 3 seasons and many are of the opinion that this will extend to 4 seasons.
He has met his objectives and whilst many question his tactics, the end has justified the means.

Finally, we have now been in the PL for a few seasons and enjoyed watching our players perform on the 'Big stage' against some of the best players in the world.
A far cry from time when CPFC2010 took charge of the club after 'Administration'.

To me this is why we are in such good shape despite all these issues we are still in the top flight . As Nectoneagle said since the Third Division South days which is when I started watching CPFC these are halcyon days. Roy and the owners and management team have done well to maintain our position. The real issue now is how we move forward from here when Roy goes. The next manager will not be judged on keeping us in the top flight but managing a team that gets consistently in the top ten or higher. That will take a very talented manager with the current squad and for me with this squad is highly unlikely to be achieved. So to progress we need new players as well as a new manager. Can we actually afford it ?

Well said Putitout.

We simply don't have the right players to play attacking football against every opponent. Yes, we did well against WBA, West Ham and Sheff U, but we lack the speed required to press high and get back quick when moves break down.

I believe Hodgson will allow a more attacking set-up in some of our future games but it will depend on who we're playing.

We cud free up a lot of wages by not renewing various contracts this summer, and we could replace the oldies and over-paid with up and coming players on lower salaries. Two out of Luka, Kouyate and the two Macs should not be in the first team squad next season, add Meyer and that's three midfielders to go, with Jairo + 2 we wud only need to bring in one frontline midfielder and have a youngster as the fifth midfielder (Banks or Dreher?) ... so I think a progressive squad rebuild is not only possible but necessary, urgent even.
