Put it this way, young Mitchell didn’t deserve to lose his place.
I keep reading about PVA is better going forward, but with Eze, Wilf, Benteke and Schlupp or whoever going forward we need PVA to concentrate on defending, his marking and positioning are shocking.

If anyone comes in from in Jan, ie Ajax etc. Offload, especially as he is out of contract in the summer.

His commitment on the 1st goal at Villa was atrocious. Caught up field, so they played in behind him, even when the cross shot was saved by Guaita, he never made any effort to get back.

As bad as PvA was, he should have had a nailed on penalty against Villa. When we get a result he often seems involved somehow. When we lose he also seems involved. What a dilemma! As bad as he's been my worry about bringing Mitchell in is that the team look really deflated and I'm not sure he has the maturity to deal with the pressure yet. Jairo filled in admirably at left-back before, but he's not a left-back.

Personally I think whomever starts there needs to be more cover, be that bringing Schlupp in at left-mid, or playing three central midfielders with one filling in when PvA/other pushes forward. Leicester play with two proper wide players, so we certainly can't leave ourselves so open again on either flank.

The first goal on Saturday was totally his fault.

I understand he can get caught up field, and that can be okay, so Dann gets dragged out and does the right thing, which is shepherd the Villa player to a bad angle. He still manages to get off a decent shot, but Guiata has it covered.

That's all fine, but now watch PVA. He starts okay, running back and takes a more central position, he's actually tracking the goal scorer, but then, for no good reason he starts jogging. The goal scorer keeps running to the penalty spot. Guiata's palmed ball falls to the spot and he kicks it in. Where is PVA??? Still outside the 18 yard box.

That to me is inexcusable.

I hope he doesn’t start a game for the rest of the season and then leaves in the summer. The bloke is an out an out liability.

Mitchell has a lot to learn but he is no worse than PVA.

So do we think PVA returns on Saturday or Mitchell keeps his place? I think he will return but think Mitchell has done enough to have a run in the team.

I thought Mitchell did OK but irrespective of that it's stopped the open door down our left side with Eze and PVA.

Mitchell should keep his place, we didn't look as nearly exposed down the left as we had done the past couple of games.

But as you suggested, wouldn't surprise me for Roy to revert back to PVA

Think PVA will be on way back to Holland-probably as a free agent at the end of the season. That would make financial sense to him.
I'd give Mitchell a 4-6 game run. But play Schlupp ahead of him for cover. I quite like him left side of midfield anyway. We need to find out if Mitchell's the future. I kind of think he is, notwithstanding he was just ok against Leicester.
I appreciate that raises the Eze question. Maybe the bench short term or play him withdrawn from Wilf and dispense with Benteke.

I also don’t think you can play PVA if Eze is to play against Sheffield this Saturday. They both struggle to defend and the left side will be open if they do. I think Saturday RH will bring Eze back but let’s hope he will keep Mitchell at left back. If PVA plays then it has to be Schlupp in front of him - Think the team is more balanced and protected at the back with those two on the left?
