I'm getting on in years, so my memory isn't as good as it was - who are the '' loads of 16 year old '' you are referring to ? And '' never here, certainly not recently '' - well which it it ? I haven't seen Atta play, but I'm interested in your opinion as you clearly have if you can guarantee that he can pass the ball better than some of our highly experienced first teamers. Highly experienced doesn't equate to any good. I've always considered McArthur as industrious but by no means a passer. Surely you see us play - do I have to go over our lack of creativity in midfield? It's not my rating of Atta that matters - he is rated.

Looking at our squads, Atta isn't even in the U18s. Should he have been? No idea. Our U18s (and apparently the younger squads) are exciting prospects, We will inevitably lose some who either can't wait to progress or are star-struck by bigger clubs purportedly interested in them. Once we start seeing players from the U18s etc. progressing to the first team squad and staying there, more youngsters may be prepared to stay, but that is probably a couple of years or so down the line. We just have to hope we can retain our PL status until we see the fruit from the Academy investment. Touch and go imo. Hope Atta makes a good choice when he does leave. He wont be 'listed' per se in out squads, as he hasn't/wont sign a Development/Professional terms with the club.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I assume he is on a 'youth' contract that enabled us to get him from the knuckledraggers, i know he did feature a few times in the U18's pre Cat1 status. What happens now, is anyones guess.

You are advocating playing an untried, if highly rated, 16 year old - who you '' guarantee '' can pass the ball better than experienced Premier League players, but have never actually seen play. Read that back and ask yourself exactly how much sense that makes. He hasn't even signed professional terms for Palace, yet you think he should be considered for first team. Yes, it's annoying that we stand to lose him, I imagine Millwall felt the same way when we signed him from them, but that's the game.

I’m sure every Premier League club has got a youngster, probably several, who are “destined for great things” as they say. As we all know the vast majority don’t make it. If he thinks he would be better off somewhere else we should just let him go. It’s not like we have a manager who likes to give youth a chance anyway.

Been meaning to ask, does anybody know what the story is with Mandela Egbo? Similar kind of deal, young prospect "destined for great things" he decided against staying with us and moved to Germany as it offered a better career path but it doesn't seem it went well at all and he's now in the MLS.

Football really needs to take a look at this. We have spent millions on our academy and no doubt millions more running it. Yet we can’t lock youngsters in with a contract. So any real potential we find can just walk whenever they want. This system is a free funnel of players to the Super clubs. If A Super club wants someone like Zion they get him free. Not only will he see the big lights and money but for sure they bribe them to go. Bit like we did to Millwall.

I have no idea about any contract but I believe he has accepted a scholarship from Palace. Not sure why we are, apparently, bound to pay Millwall money

According to the Palace coaching staff, he was '' better than Victor Moses was at the same age ''....but unfortunately he couldn't maintain that progress...happens a lot as you said.
