A bit like Shearer and Sutton. Slightly less prolific perhaps.

I would not be surprised to see Benteke start against WBA.

Interesting. If I were in Roy's position at the moment I'm not sure I'd be willing to trust Benteke to help preserve my job.

I'm not sure I'd trust a lot of the current squad. VG, Cahill, PVA, Luka, Macca, Wilf. Maybe Eze. That's about it.

Batshuayi has scored in recent seasons for Belgium against the likes of Iceland,Cyprus, San Marino,Kasakhstan, Tunisia etc etc so hardlly world beaters.
In club matches he has scored a solitary goal in his last 24 games and that was against Hull.

Look at you trying to discredit people you can only play against what is put up against you.

That is a dumb argument they are playing for number one ranked team in the world so you really think they are going to just select two useless players.

You are looking at things way to single even Roy seize this stats do not tell the full story if you are in a club team which do not create hardly any chances or play a way which benefits/ uses your skill traits are are you suppose to get the goals it also doesn't take into account the other work done on the pitch a strikers job is not to just score goals.

I bet you right now if you transferred Benteke to even a team like West Ham he would start scoring may not be 20 goals season but it would be 10 at least (Palace play football like they want to walk the ball into the net from center that doesn't benefit either of these players)

Couldn't agree more with this...he'd start banging them in.

I have always been a fan of Townsend, but his recent form has been woeful. Eze and Zaha are our best attacking options plus Ayew when he is at his best. Batshuayi has need very disappointing since he returned and should be on the bench. So I would play 4-3-3 with Benteke leading the line and a midfield of Schlupp, McArthur and McCarthy (when fit) plus a defence of Ward, Tomkins (when fit), Cahill and Van Arnholt.
We also need an attacking midfielder 8n January. Barkley would have been perfect.

Let's keep the ball this season!

If we had an attacking midfielder he'd be so busy tracking back it would be pointless. Even Eze and Wlif have to constantly track back. Eze let it slip in an interview which was then backed up by Roy. You really couldn't make this up. Think of the attacking midfielders we have or have had since Roy (I'm trying to forget). What happened to them?

Under Hodgson we never had / have a midfielder who can carry the ball forward 10 yards and break the opposition line. It's all square / back / pass to Wilf. Square pegs round holes, unbalanced team. When Schlupp gets put out as a centre forward you know something is very wrong indeed.

Yes we have. RLC, however he unfortunately went back to Chelsea. He made a massive difference to our side when fit.

Schlupp has played as a striker. Many years ago, when Schlupp was a teenager, Brentford signed him on loan from Leicester as a striker and he did score a few goals for them.

A few years back I recall seeing him play up front, possibly for Leicester, and I formed the view that he seemed to lack composure in front of goal.
He has certainly played in a few positions and has been given that "Versatile" tag.

Benteke and Batshuayi may have been better appreciated in an earlier era when 4_4-2 was the norm ànd teams tried to get the ball to the strikers as quickly as possible.
In a similar vein to the way we used to utilise Bright and Wright.
Occasionally I used to visit the old training ground at Mitcham and many of the drills were exclusively on providing crosses to them.
You may remember Neil Redfearn who was a decent footballer with a very good shot.
I once asked him why he didn't have more shots on goal. He said he wasn't allowed as he was instructed to always hit Bright and Wright when in an attacking position.
The build up is much slower now and strikers are expected to be the first line of defence.

Yes, you're right, RLC is the type of player I had in mind, that seems like an age ago now. He was injured for a fair few games if I recall.
I was hoping Kouyate might be able to do a Viera and fulfil that role but alas no.
