I’d love to hear the instructions Roy have to the team to before that game to get an exact picture of how they were sent out to play. Is it all his fault or are players half to blame? In my opinion Roy doesn’t trust Mitchell at left back which is why we are basically sacrificing a winger and having 2 left backs. On the right side Ward has a serious lack of pace but Kouyate is able to move across and help him and if not Townsend is there. Roy seems so obsessed with protecting our full backs that he is creating havoc through out the rest of the team as we never have any players far enough up the pitch when we do get the ball. When we had PVA and AWB we played differently because Roy trusted that they had the pace to look after themselves. As soon as PVA is fully fit he will be straight back in at left back. He needs to get Eze into the roll Zaha played yesterday and get Zaha back onto the wing but this won’t happen while Mitchell is playing as Roy doesn’t trust him enough.
you could be onto Something there. Mitchell played pretty good yesterday - but he still gave the ball away needlessley, and in dangerous areas on a Few occasions.

Edited by EddieMac (19 Oct 2020 8.20am) I listened to most of the first half on 5 live yesterday. They were diving into far more detail than Sky/BT/MOTD ever do. There was far less sensalisim and a lot more substance. I've wanted journalist to ask managers more difficult questions for years. They do in other sports. I guess in football it would end a lot of the debates that keep people talking about it so we have no chance of quality journalist for the foresable future. Interviews in recent years have all been sterilies and become more predicable than our style of play.

PVA will make a difference going forward and he has a good understanding with players on the left which give us more thrust down that side.

It was extremely painful to say the least but we all understand that Roy is short term here, he is leaving as manager it could be at any time, I think the club are waiting for the right moment and man and we need to just hold on because nothing is sadly going to change on the pitch until then, meanwhile we will continue to pick up sufficient points for safety and that at least is something.

Does it not make more sense to rather than play Schlupp in a role so that he can hold Mitchell's hand and ensure he doesn't get overwhelmed, that he plays at left back himself ? Leaving Zaha to play on the left in front of him and Eze in the middle ?

Is this really a surprise to anyone? Steve Parish and co know Roy's limitations so they have signed us up for another season of this. The only thing that will get Roy the boot is an extended run of defeats that shows no signs of stopping thus threatening relegation. Dour football won't and I think we'll have to wait until the season ends. Let's just hope that there's some serious succession planning going on behind the scenes.

The crap posted by Roy's supporters about he can only do what he can with the tools he has does not wash any more. He has a squad full of internationals. We were not playing Liverpool, Man City or Chelsea today. It was totally unacceptable. Lets not dress it up, it was disgusting I have to agree; if we can't play with some enterprise or passion against our biggest rivals then what is the flippin' point? Seaweed look like they are trying to build a new attacking sh1t or bust style, which at least their fans must like watching, while we just look like we have settled for being hard to beat and that's all. Boring.

Very true. This is the main reason I don’t get too worked up about Roy. He will be gone soon. With Covid and the loss of earnings there would be no worse season to get relegated.

When everyone was raving about Meyer before he signed, I hadn't even heard of him and struggled to get involved in the hype! But as we slowly got glimpses of him you could see he is a fantastic little footballer who is very confident with the ball. He keeps possession and very rarely gives the ball away. These are the players we need if we are to get the midfield involved with the forwards. These type create space and make other players run into space. To think Camarasa (of whom we'll never know) Meyer and Jairo have not featured at all is criminal and clarifys what Hodgson is about. McArthur who was our box to box now often resides in front of the back 4 along with the majority of our midfield!! Even Luka has stopped scoring. I've never been a fan of Hodgson and like a lot of fans at the moment, I'm glad I'm not going. Just gutted they are still taking my season ticket money. Give the job to Freedman for the rest of the season.... he has unfinished business!
