I think we are mistaken if we think players are immersed in the wider culture of their club. Most probably don't even have any knowledge of the history the club they play for. It doesn't make them thick but it does give us some idea of their level of attachment to a club.

It’s the curse of being in the premier league. All the players care about is how much money they’re earning every week and unfortunately the club and the local community probably never cross most of their minds. He probably doesn’t even know we play at Selhurst Park.

If I was paid 60k a week i'm sure my employers would want me to take an interest in other aspects of the company especially ones that are good for PR.
