Yes he did. The famous picture of him grabbing Billy Bremner was after Bremner had kicked him on the leg he’d broken. He was the hardest, as opposed to dirty, player I’ve seen. I would back him on a 50/50 ball against anyone who’s ever played. He was skilful as well though.

Then going to Portsmouth winning 4-2 and having some hope and we all know what happened at Stockport!! I’m fed up because I know what will be the replys to this, “we should be aiming higher” s*** transfer windows” etc etc , we are Crystal Palace , we punch above our weight, we always have done!! The season we got promoted we were favourites to get relegated to league 1! I have seen so much drivel on Twitter I have deactivated my account. I genuinely can’t stand our fan base on Twitter anymore . We sound like a deluded bunch of idiots with a right to European football and if this mindset carries on , we will end up the same way as charlton. PS I’m not looking for an arguenement if anyone disagrees , I just wanted to vent but hope you will agree COYP Edited by SwordFish (17 Jul 2020 12.15am) I'd say that it's important to factor in that often annoyance is based on either the game in question, or a bad run. It's not always an accurate reflection of how people typically feel, more venting in the moment. And as for the survival point, people get comfortable and then want more. Sure staying up was enough at one point in time, but we aspire and dream and since we realistically already knew we were staying up, this recent bad run has got on people tits. Next season it'll be back to a blank slate and see how we go type situation. I get what you're saying though, let's not overlook what we've achieved.

I don’t need Europe but it would be nice to stay in the premier. Our form with no fans is dismal. Although unlucky we are losing all our games. We now face a dilemma. Do we buy or just accept the inevitable. No fans. No results. Relegation. And that’s if the game survives outside the premier. It’s a huge issue. Be interesting to see the outcome. For me this empty stadium bulls*** is the end.

Off topic, but I couldn’t resist it when I saw mention of Dave McKay.

I’ve been saying it most of the season. With the squad we have and our shocking injury list for most of the year, we should be relegated. The only reason we are not relegated is because of Roy’s tactics. Our defence is the slowest (bar PVA) in the division by a country mile but yet because of Roy’s tactics we are able to hang on in games and get enough points to survive. The same people bang on about lack of subs every week. Are these people blind? Have they ever seen our bench on match days? Do they not think Roy would like to look around and see a good player on the bench? All I hear is bloody Meyer this, Riedewald that. 2 bang average football players who can’t get a game ahead of Kouyate, that is there fault not Roy’s. They have had years to impress him and they are still not good enough. People need to have a good look at our squad and be grateful that we still in the division. Fully agree, the team is by average age the oldest in PL and has a scoring record that would normally result in relegation but for Roy’s tactical ability. The bench offers little option because players like Riedewald/Meyer are probably good players but their skill set do not fit the defensive set up that Roy has to use as we have no attacking midfielder who can pass the ball accurately or any decent striker who can score. The problem is lack of investment in new and younger players over several windows. Who is to blame?, that’s simple the board, they sell one of our better younger players for 50mil and do not reinvest that sum in the team. Just look at how smartly Sheffield Utd invested 62 mil in their team and look at how well they have played this season.

Think it’s just the reality of being in the premiership. Every year means another relegation battle, regardless of the manager. It’s all pretty tedious. In many ways championship football is far more exciting.

Unfortunately Dougie, no team other than Man U , Man City, Arsenal , Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool are certainties to not be relegated . Every other team will have to look over their shoulder and this is the peak of our mountain unless we have huge investment and for that I’m very proud!! This is spot on, Stoke are a good example of not taking premier league football for granted, who would’ve thought they would’ve gone down, they were what you would’ve called ‘established’ 10 years up and finishing in the top 10 with brilliant home support helping to make it a bit of a fortress. Look at them now. Edited by monkey (18 Jul 2020 9.01am)

I do think Roy has done a great job keeping the club stable, but I would like to see a bit more attacking next season. Last night showed we are capable of attacking more and I actually think just 2-3 first-team quality signings would make a huge difference. I don't care about fighting for a European spot as we're not there yet in terms of finances, instead I'm concerned about seeing us play some decent football. This!!!!!

The reality is the football Roy endorses is horrific, almost anti football. His groundhog day mind numbing tactics are nauseating. Have you tried introducing the younger generation to Palace.. when you have all the other clubs within our close proximity? Why on earth would they choose Palace, with our stadium and our turgid 'entertainment' served up. To me what the team offer is not 'palace' and not in the right setting of what the club try to project as our identity and culture. We need a new young, fresh vibrancy in our club imo. The apathy creeping in with the fans with Roy is damaging. Yes its a risk moving on from Roys stability, but do we really believe that if he did have the ability to make signings his mentality and philosophy would change? To me it also would not make financial sense if they give Roy access to the purse strings.. when he does leave, the new Manager will undoubtedly have his own ideas on players and who he does and doesnt want. It doesnt make financial sense for Roy to go shopping if he could at the end of next season when his contract expires. Parish and Dougie it appears have tried purchasing players 'for' Roy, that doesnt work either as he just throws them by the wayside as we have seen. For me, although its a tough decision with many millions at stake to move on from Roy, we have no future with Roy in charge and I've not even mentioned how Roy is a blocker to the youth and our new found cat 1 status. Roy and youth players do not go hand in hand.

The thought of handing Hodgson a transfer kitty with which to buy another couple of over the hill defensive midfielder duffers doesn't bear thinking about. I note that Leeds have been promoted - their manager favours a pressing high tempo game and it will be interesting to see how they get on. Edited by southnorwoodhill (18 Jul 2020 9.53am)

They could go straight back down but I have a feeling they won't.
