I'll bet if you asked any team in the league, "Would you rather face Palace with or without Wilf?" the answer would be emphatic. And if you asked, "How 'bout if Palace replaced Wilf with two players whose wages add up to his?" they would still be emphatic. He is a dangerous player, and he helps our squad immensely.

I can't be arsed to check this out but over the last 4 seasons I'd like to see the points Palace won A/ When Wilf played and B/ when he didn't.

I'll bet those figures are significant.

Even when he's a bit off form, Palace are a better team with him included.

I have to say social media has increased the frenzy around good ol' Wilf.
I love the lad and all but over the last 30 years - he wouldn't even make my top ten palace players.
There - said it!
He might make it in to my top ten forwards, but not players

With a midfield of McArthur, McCarty and Kouate yesterday, what do you expect? No offence, they are honest players, but none of them are even close to be called a playmaker. Even with Zaha and Benteke on top for the full game at Anfield, we would probably still not had tested the Liverpool goalie with that lack of creativity in midfield.

Just out of interest who should Roy have picked in mid-field?

Bit obvious really, because of the age range with this team/squad, my picks would be Pirlo, Zidane, Figo.

You can keep ya Messi's Ronaldo's & Beckham's, bloody youngsters don't know half of it anyway.

flipping eck...there are some absolute nuggets on this board.

to question what wilf brings to us, especially after the last 5 years is ludicrous.

just imagine where we would be without him...losing £30m a year in the championship like the others would be the best scenario.

I do understand that Badger.
Don't get me wrong, he's a good kid and winning fouls and holding up the ball is as important.
Maybe, just maybe we would stop relying on this one player and invest in a couple of decent players and get back to being a team.
Palace have such potential - a really good bunch.
The focus needs to come away from Zaha.

It’s not down to Wilf the cub being woeful at replacing YB. Townsend is a poor imitation so consequently all the pressure falls on him. Wilf has been a stand out player for us since his debut. It will be a sad day when or if he departs.

I’d say he has been poor this season but to question his quality over the past few seasons is crazy! and regarding stats, they don’t always tell the whole story, if I can recall correctly, Will Buckley had better stats than Wilf at one point but by watching both you could see who was better.

Not sure about that ! But I don't understand any Palace fan that doesn't appreciate what he has given to Palace. Without him (and arguably Glen Murrays goals) we would still be struggling in the championship or worse. Grumbling in our half empty crumbling Selhurst that we cant string 3 passes together.
