A stockbroker urged me to buy a stock that would triple its value every year. I told him, at my age, I don't even buy green bananas!

Nicky Rizzo came from Liverpool - about 20 years ago. I don't know if I'm thinking about the right person, but I think it was he who scored one of the flukiest goals I've seen. It was at the Whitehorse end, and a defender, just inside his penalty area, attempted to smash the ball upfield. It hit our man at a range of about two feet and ricocheted like a rocket back into the net. It happened so quickly that when a pal at the far end asked me on the way home what had happened, I wasn't really sure.

On other names, I don't think Martin Kelly has been mentioned yet.

Are you thinking of the goal that Birmingham scored FOR us when one of their defenders smashed it against another about 25 yards out for us to get a draw? Then a young winger called Evans wheeled away celebrating like he’d scored.

Rizzo did score a brilliant 30 yarder into the wind against Norwich when we thrashed them 5-1!

Great - thanks for clearing that up. I did say that even in real time I wasn't too sure what had happened. And you're right to mention Rizzo's 30-yarder, because if my memory is right, that shot went into the goalie's top left corner of the net at the Whitehorse end, which was also where the Birmingham o.g. went, which would explain how I got the two events confused.

I must admit, though, that I can't recall the Evans you mention. From what you say he evidently put the o.g. down to an "assist" on his part.

Ah that Norwich game, we played like Barca that day under vegetables, felt like we were really going places.

You’re welcome.

I think his name was Steve Evans. He was a youngster with floppy blonde hair and was a left winger. I think he only played a few times.

This is true, but since we’ve been premier league it would be like shopping at Poundland, so we don’t bother anymore

Still alive mate thanks!! Hope you and your family are well
