Cahill's definitely one of the best, but for me Jim Cannon.

I suspect Cahill, Sakho, Tomkins, Dann and Kelly are all up there with best centre-halves the club has ever had.

Cannon. Is the correct answer, a player with the most club appearance. Cahill hasn't even completed 1 season so cannot be compared to the legend that is Big Jim Cannon.

my vote would go to Craig Moore. He was much like Cahill, oozed class but sadly only stayed one season and I think went back to Rangers. But Gary Cahill is certainly class, plus huge respect to the others already named in this thread... Edited by Sansbup (02 Mar 2020 9.33am)

I've spent the majority of the season stuffed to the bridges on the sofa with humble from the local pie shop. Back to winning ways now that's he's back in the team.

Cahill is very good - a great piece of business in the summer transfer window (as was Ayew). Yes....but the answer is Alan Stephenson who was a Rolls Royce of a centre half.

But Cahill is still playing as good as ever and is as good / better as any of the centre backs presently playing for England. /quote] That may well be so - although I doubt if the England manager agrees with you. But the paucity of decent English players currently is of no relevance, logically, as to whether he is out best centre back ever

Personally still think Sakho is a better football player. But Cahill a massive coup for sure. Totally agree with you. I think Sakho is the best centre back outside the top 6 clubs, when he is fit. Always thought Cahill is overated. I was never impressed with him when he played against us for Chelsea. I agree that he was brilliant on Saturday and has had some other very good performances like at Watford but I haven't been as bowled over with his displays this season as others have been.

Gary Cahill is the reason we are not in a relegation battle.

Cahill is still at 34 a quality defender, I actually think he is one of the best English centre backs in the Premier League although he won't get pick for England now. He is a better defender than Stones, Maguire and quite a few others.
