Bit of really shrewd and good management would have seen us pushing for CL this season, just look at Sheffield Utd. Very very poor transfer planning which IMO equates to people in charge not knowing that much about football, sorry to say it!!

A few too many times Parish thought he was smarter than everyone else and the game.

With so much being talked about the future of the club, owners, manager, players, transfers and wages, these are just some of the things to think about over the 18 months.

At the end of this season we all know that our managers current contract ends, but we also look set to lose

Scott Dann 33 - 60k a week.

Now this is where the fun begins. At the end of 20/21 these are the players out of contract

Andros Townsend will be 30 55k a week
Christian Benteke will be 30 120k a week
Mamadou Sakho will be 32 100k a week
Patrick Van AAnholt will be 30 55k a week
Jeffery Schlupp wil 28 56k a week
Max Meyer will be 25 125k a week
James McArthue will be 33 55k a week
Gary Cahill will be 35 ???
Vicente Guaita will be 34 60k a week
Joel Ward will be 31 35k a week
Martin Kelly will be 31 25k a week
Wayne Hennessey will be 34 40k a week
Connor Wickham will be 27 still injuried 60k a week

My question is, with the fact I think Wilf will go this summer and will probably have a mangerial change, are board waiting to see who comes in to see who gets a new contract? Apart from Meyer/Wickham all will be over 30, but thats still a starting 11 plus a reverse keeper out of contract. Do we keep any of them? Or is this a massive chance to start with a clean slate? But that would be with 0 pounds coming in from transfers and no money from the owners to for transfers.

If I read the OP correctly, my take on the situation is this:

IF we got relegated this year that would be catastrophic since we are "in the hole" for over £800k p/week (so £41.6M) on wages for an aged squad which will be simply unable to cope in the Championship (much more physical, a younger man's league).

BUT

Scraping by this year & getting relegated next year (because we have no money to invest this summer due to wage pressures as listed above) is MUCH less of a disaster because of all the out of contract players we can just "let go", plus we would have received a season's premiership money to be able to "finance" trhis last year of big wage debt.

I knew it was bad but I didn’t realise it was that bad!

It’s truly amazing how badly run we are - anyone who has the misfortune to suffer our match day hospitality “experience” knows it.

It is practically impossible for us to navigate this squad regeneration especially given how bad we are at getting players across the line.

Maybe the miracle can continue - I mean let’s face it we were never meant to be promoted so quickly, and then staying up...

So we might replace Roy with a progressive manager who will bring through the youth - can but dream...

Examples of why it’s bad please?

I remember someone gave details a while back but i can’t remember. Is it like on the apprentice when the clients share 4 bottles of wine between 15 of them?

if we stay up this season then we will HAVE to get replacements in next season ready for the expensive players we let go - for all the short termism and some very dodgy transfer windows Parish is trying to keep us up, but maybe it would be better/cheaper to do the rebuild in the championship?!

Nope. We’d be better off building a championship/Prem squad in the Prem with the tv money. In the championship we’d be in the wilderness, be financially uncompetitive and suffer whatever it may be under the shareholders we have.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Doesn't sound massively too much for a decent #2 keeper in the premier league???

I kind of feel sorry for him. I mean that's only £160K a month. Just over £2m a year. Can hardly keep him in Ferraris.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

Agreed. Those wanting a return to the Championship really do need to be careful what they wish for because the decline is unlikely to stop there with the albatrosses we have around our necks.

If we were to go down I can definitely see us doing a Charlton. Years out of the top flight with no real prospect of ever getting back there.
