England look to me to have a serious shortage of wide players and the only ones lately have been Oxtail-Chamberpot, who is obviously goosed, and maybe Rashford operating in wilf mode. Townsend tends to come inside rather than go to the byline and cross, but ought to be at least an option i the circumstances.

Can't fit into Southgate's system. Had England played 4-4-2 with 2 natural wingers, then yes, maybe. Still Sterling, Rashford, Lingard and Ox would have been ahead of him. But Townsend would have had the advantage that none is left footed. But as it is, with the 3-4-3 system, it's just a left defender up that left flank (Betrand, Rose or Ashley Young). 2 of them are left footed and Young is pretty much 2 footed at his age and experience. No need for another left footed player on the flank anymore. Sterling, Rashford, Lingard and Delle Alli arein a more central role, behind the striker (Kane/Vardy). Ox can't even find a position except as central midfielder (which isn't half bad for him with the way he's been shooting lately!)
If it were up to me? Townsend would be an option, but I think the 3-4-3 is good for England, especially as Rose/Bertrand are good going forward and crossing. No need for another left footed player really if you play 3-4-3. Chelsea has proved it with Marcos Alonso the year they won the league playing like this.

If RH wants to play him up front ... well we're stuck with it! He is such a left sided player it's not funny, it's not gonna cut at international level these days. And I stick by my claim that he can't cross with his right foot! He is effective on some dead ball situations and I'd rather have him take our corners that Cabaye! Again, I don't rate his defending as time and time again he fails to support the fullback in getting back.

High time he got a song. Works super hard for the team. His press is immense too - shame he lacks a little bit of quality in his final ball Agree 100%

What's going on with Townsend ?? He was ever present last season and all of a sudden seems to have lost his place in the side. He was awful against Sheff UTD and has been dropped since. I like him as a player but there are a lot of flaws in his game and he is definitely slowing down. I wonder does Roy now see Schlupp ahead of Townsend ? Any views ?

My own opinion is we may have burned him out last season! there was very little creative cover and because of that he played almost thefull 90 in every game, I honestly think we may have over played him due to our small squad

Daniel James was an affordable candidate for us, he very nearly joined Leeds United last year. These players are out there, why don't we pre-empt anything? We certainly didn't have a right-back lined up, we've just resorted to the one we had be AWB came along.

Steady on folks. Andros may not be in the best of form right now, but he will be back and firing on all cylinders again. He's no Big Time Charlie so he will be working hard to get back to his best.

On form he is one of our best. Clearly seems a fine line between firing on all four or not, but our coaching team led by Roy clearly have the eye to know who is on form. Ayew being the current classic example. Andros will be back. Edited by dreamwaverider (03 Sep 2019 1.55am)

After Luka I think Andros covered more ground than any other player last season. Unfortunately for Townsend, under Roy's current (winning) formula it is either Wilf or Andros, as Schlupp is the man Vicente hits with his long diagonals. Andros is a better player than Schlupp for my money, but sometimes it's about the team not the individual (unless you're Wilf and then it seems this doesn't count!) Hopefully he'll use this as motivation.

I've taken this to be Roy on a ruthless streak this season. I think he was a bit p!$$ed off with the summers activity, or lack of, and his general demeanour now seems to be hardened and no nonsense. I think this might actually bring the best out of him as a manager now, and maybe some of the players. I would of thought Andros was almost undroppable but now he has been and maybe sends a message to all players that they have to earn their right to be in the starting XI. Must note - I don't think Andros has played awfully just had a slow start and to echo previous posts will work his way back into the side.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

IMO Andros is a very good player and as we know can score the odd wonder goal. Roy seems to like Schlupp a lot and I am beginning to see why, I have little doubt before long Andros will get a chance and have a cracker making it difficult to leave him out. So it would seem this is good to keep players keen, far better start to the season than many expected eh!!
