It's getting to the mindset to do it . Today has been a better day I have come back on here to post after a while not being here. I haven't eaten but I have got dressed properly for the first time since Sunday and I had a bath so that's something

A lot of gyms offer a free day activity pass to try the place out, maybe call your local gym. Maybe talk to your doctor as well.

It's horrible to read that you're feeling like this but you really do need to eat, even if only small meals. Am here if you want to talk x

Hopefully you feel a little better for having done so Michaela, if so then that's a positive step..one step at a time is all that's required to get things moving again.

I've always found that if I can build the exercise into the working day (i.e. running/cycling to work) it makes it more palatable at the start; but I do appreciate that with youngsters that wouldnt be easy.

Have you considered trying to involve the littleun's in any exercise you'd be interested in?

Moved to the puregym in Purley which costs £20 a month - no pool etc but is open 24hrs which works great for me as I can go anytime I feel like it (usually 6:30am!)- Surprisingly smart places and as it's a chain I would expect the one near Sydenham is very similar - Wife does lots of classes there and books them via an app. Saved us £70 a month on fees

I definately think Gym's are getting smarter with what 'users' actually want and with increased automation (out of hours access) it makes it easier for people to go at a time that suits as well as at a lower cost...clearly there are two types of gym user though. those that simply want to pose (your Nufield/Davidlloyd and Virgin) users who are happy to be seen to pay upwards of £90 a month...and those that are using it as a means to an end..in teh rest of us.

I've been seriously impressed with the facilities on offer at The Spa and The Pavillion.

my cure for when you are feeling awful :

- exercise
- fresh air
- bright lunchtime daylight
- fresh raw fruit/veg.
- water
- time with pets, especially dogs.

note the absence of chemicals, booze, telly etc. Get well soon Eagle, we are all finding this Autumn very tough.

Thanks. I don't drink much anyway. Beginning of August was the last time and before that April. Been ok all day now it's dark I feel bloody awful again. The darkness is definitely having an effect on me. The nights are the worst. I just want to sleep my way through this

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

Have you tried those lamps that give off a more natural light? I know someone who suffers from S.A.D and they got one which has helped them greatly...could be a help..

Have heard of them. Going to have a look tonight. Need to do something and fast to be honest. I knew it wasn't great when I didn't want to get out of bed and go to Tottenham on Sunday and when I was there I his behind my sunglasses and wanted to go home as soon as possible. I mean I know we're not great at the moment but still !

For the first time in my life I've actually joined a gym.

Having been a cynic of these places in the past and choosing to play sport in order to keep myself fit instead was more than a little nervous about sharing the place with young 20 somethings... Even though I'm only in my mid 40s.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the ranges of age groups actually in there using all the equipment, from 20 up to 70... Both male and female.

They definitely seems to be a change in people's attitude towards gyms and I definitely see it as a tool that the NHS can use in order to alleviate the pressures on the system moving forward over the next decade or so.

How long before gym membership usurps bus passes for when you hit 60 in order to keep us fit and healthier for longer?

Anyone else on here regular gym users?

Yep. Go mon-fri every week. Love it. Get there early, send out all my quotes/invoices from the coffee shop. Then go upstairs do an hour of intense graft, skipping/punch bag/weights. Then sauna jacuzzi and out by 10:30am
I go as much for my head as my body. Sometimes i walk up the stairs with loads going on in my head, after an hour I float back down the stairs. Love it, will maybe slow down a bit on the graft as I get older, but I’ll never stop it.
Like on a night out, people are too busy worrying about what they look like to worry about anyone else.
I talk to men and women from 20-70 years old, generally uplifting people that are trying to better themselves.
You can’t be ‘to tired to go to the gym’, it gives you more energy and you sleep better.
It’s never to late to sort your body or your head out. Can’t recommend the Gym enough.

Michaela apart from the cost, no one ever regrets excercising.
Good luck

I think thats such an important point...no matter where you are in life, physically or mentally it's NEVER too late to do something about it
