awful 'boxes - easytronice/ishift/tiptronic - whatever they are called, slowly but surely being phased out as the car makers realise that what works on paper doesnt always work in the metal.

As I say.. Volvo. People take the piss out of them.. start the engine , into d, foot down lots, sit back... aah

Yep that's it. Looks like a 3rd indicator. A, m for manual mode, r and p . Then there are two more stalks behind the steering wheel for going up or down gears from 1-6 like on an f1 car

It was in 2008 and I've just looked up my holiday pics to see that it was a Citroen Picasso C4 and I think that it was probably the worst car that I've ever hired.

It wasn't so much the driving quirks but more the handling as it seemed to handle like a boat in bad weather and any journey over a couple of miles had the passengers feeling sea sick

Also tends to roll back a touch on hills / when trying to park etc. Rather disconcerting ..

But yes it's a boat.. a boat on tarmac. Gear change all go forward , and all go back ... forward and back.. like a rowing boat

I was given a Volvo in one of my IFA sales jobs in the late 80's

I had just married Mrs Hoof in 1988 and I didn't tell her it had heated seats which I left switched on for the passenger even on the hottest days!.

she used to say "I feel very hot in this car" every time she got in..... bless her... she didn't realise I was preparing some 'hot snatch'
