Hmmmm I smell Bullsh1t on the basis that in every conflict, lberation, war or whatever you want to call it, I have been in, I am not fighting against people armed with SA80A1 assault rifle's, or running like fcuk from an L109A1 frag grenade, no I am fighting against people armed to the fcking teeth with Russian made AK's and ammo and Chinese RPG's and mines. Don't be silly. Edited by dannyh (15 Sep 2016 9.53am) Its a globalised, non-regionalised market. Whilst the UK might not be a premier producer and exporter of British Arms, UK arms dealers are numerous and prolific, and sell all manner of weapons from different countries to all manner of different sources.

I would imagine that a lot of their kit is ultimately acquired through legal trade with the middle east, being syphoned off or 'going missing', and trade with illegal arms dealers. I suspect close inspection and investigation would flag up a fair amount of kit legally bought by the Saudi's and UAE for example, is syphoned off and sold onto terrorists (for a lucrative profit). I also suspect that this is a 'accepted knowledge' in the arms trade world wide. Its a kind of truism, that drug funded terrorists / narco terrorists have quite impressive kit compared to those terrorists groups that are poorly funded. The arms trade knows that a significant portion of its trade ends up being used to arm terrorists and proxy forces. But as long as they don't legally know that, its just 'good for business'

Little known fact is that UK ranks second behind USA in terms of global arms industry sales... to such places as Libya; Syria and Iraq whom we've actively sold to in the past. Makes you feel proud to be British, eh? Possibly, but in terms of the global lethal industry we are probably talking about very sophisticated weaponry not the 'cannonised' Toyota pick up trucks and small arms which usually predominate in these basket case regions.

Britain is a trusted arms dealer but don't let that be confused with manufacture.
