Edited by Mapletree (25 Aug 2016 1.54pm) We only order in take aways directly from the various local establishments - usually in the £18 - £25 range. There's always a couple of quid in it for the delivery person, especially seeing as it's the usual faces we see and they are sometimes standing at the front door in the pouring rain.

Anyone know about Private Yacht Charters. My boss charted a yacht out of Bahamas last month, there were 4 of us on it plus the 6 crew. The charter was 70k for 10 days cruising down the exumas. He paid an extra 30% APP thats for food, drinks, fuel etc. At the end of the charter,my boss gave them 2k in cash as a tip,Captain said he expected minimum 15 to 20% tip so 10.5 to 14k USD and gave back the 2k. Whats the tipping etiquette on this sort of deal ?

I try and tip people in advance if I can. That way they're more incentivised to deliver a good service. Otherwise, I'm pretty conventional: hairdresser, waiters or waitresses, delivery people. I try and avoid tipping taxi drivers unless they're really nice. Agree I always tip 1st if I can.

I find that weird but then in the States a tip is 20%+ so it's only a downpayment Don't answer back Edited by Mapletree (25 Aug 2016 3.44pm) Basic human psychology, innit. I did a bit of work on the side for a client recently, he bunged me 200€ cash. Anything from him jumps the queue from now on.

If anyone is going to the states when you check in to your hotel put a $50 bill in your passport and ask if there are any free room upgrades avaliable. We ended up with a huge suite whilst another couple got a standard room. We kindly gave them a tour of our room.

When I worked in a well known Midtown Irish pub the owner won $100-000 on a Super bowl box. I was sent in a taxi to go and collect it from a bar on the Upper East side. I had to tip the guy 10K for running the box & I also got 1K for 20 minutes work for collecting it.

in a restaurant I always ask if the tip goes to the staff directly on top of their wages when its automatically put on the bill , if they say yes then fine , if not I ask them to take it off the bill . pay the bill with my card then leave them a cash tip so it goes to them , really annoys me that restaurants use the tips to make up the wages . this doesn't seem to be as prevalent as it was though

I know as an American my views are going to be a little bit different than most of British. But if you're asking for my opinion I would've tipped merely for the fact of the fuel cost comes outta the drivers pocket. For that fact alone I would've tipped. Whomever is bringing me a good and delivering a service deserves to be tipped. Just being honest.
