How do you block off 7 miles of beach? And why call for this one to be blocked off when a person died there a month ago, when several people died at other beaches just last week?

25,000 people go there on a busy day, what about all of the businesses that rely on that trade? What about all the tourists that have gone there to have a holiday or day out too?

Optimistic as ever

Not that many, pretty safe stretch of beach

Arguably Darwinism in action given the recent publicity regarding the sea and safety

They do it at Waikiki, too.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

The people on the beach today are saying the same why isn't it blocked off where these people died.

Because adults should take a bit of responsibility for their own safety and not think the sea is like a giant swimming pool with a bit of a wave machine thrown in?

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

Why are they there if they're so bothered?

Just attention seeking. What should really be done is more lifeguards - which has presumably already happened.

I can never understand why I'm still allowed to drive given how many people die on the roads.

Life can be risky. Yes, this event is very sad. Yes, lessons can probably be learned and information given on signs etc - though I dare say most people would ignore them anyway, but why on earth would you close the beach?

Is the wrong answer.

I agree with many of the other posts here, people have got to f'kin realise that THE SEA CAN BE DANGEROUS!
