I would argue that meal deals are the greatest lie told to the modern man. In my opinion it is neither a meal nor a deal. Often end up saving about 60p and the fact you have to choose between sweet or savoury snack option renders the meal incomplete in my humble opinion. Having said that, today at lunch I went for Smoked ham and cheddar sandwich, a Vanilla Coke and wotsits Coulsdon, a meal deal is not always about the savings, it's the endless possibilities... at times it can be as tricky as picking your fantasy football team before a season has started, but there's nothing better when you get a meal deal right. I remember a beautiful period of my life, where every Friday I would buy a Fentimans Cola, a Chicken & Bacon sandwich and a packet of Sweet Chilli Sensations all for £3.00. Great shout with the vanilla coke and wotsits, not sure on the smoked ham and cheddar sandwich however.

I'm old and confused. Are these genuine food meal deals, or are people using euphemisms?

Prices have really gone up over the past few years. In 2000, Liverpool bought Emile for £11m, which seemed bad enough. In 2014 though, they paid £9.75m just for a Can and recently tried to buy a Sane for £11m. That’s over £20m, and doesn’t even include a packet of crisps. I’m making my own packed lunches from now on.

Sainsburys meal deal is the best, the sandwiches just taste nicer sadly I have a choice of Tesco or Asda at the moment so it's Tesco for me. Sainsburys New Yorker sandwich is £3 so you're actually getting the crisps/chocolate/fruit and drink for free.

Might have to have a look and see if they have this beast in when I mooch for lunch on my way to the office.
