Don't get me started on a few good albums and a whole lot of filler Floyd.

I wouldn't say any of these bands are actually s**t, some are pretty good, its just that they seem to have fans who have a massively myopic view of the band.

I get why someone likes Iron Maiden, I don't get how they think they're the 'greatest band of all time ever' etc.

The only Floyd albums that stand out are Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall but generally they are a bit depressing and dull. Their early stuff is all drug induced experimental stuff with mixed results.

Well I guess that is my point. I don't think anyone that likes them is wrong and I'm not saying they are rubbish. But, as you say, I can't comprehend how anyone could possibly rave about them.

Kiss are an interesting conundrum. They have a great vocalist, Paul Stanley, large personalities but have always just got away with it in terms of musicianship. They have relied on a set of their classic songs for many years and until recently have always tried to follow trends rather than create them. They were born out of British glam and hard rock and always struggled to shake off the image over substance tag.
Their really good albums are the two live albums "Alive" and "Alive II" and "Destroyer""which was produced by Bob Ezrin but to appreciate Kiss you really would have to have seen them live.

if you are going to wear full face make up and glittery jumpsuits and keep sticking your over long tongue out , youre going to be remembered as that . having said that I liked I was made for loving you , their ham fisted go at disco , there is great electro version of that by the queen of japan

I love psychedelic music, and generally find Pink Floyd to be boringly art school, even with a head full of acid. Give me the 13th Floor Elevators, Love, The Doors or Jefferson Airplane or some early Hawkwind any day.

Just because its drug based, doesn't mean it has to be 'up your own arse' bland.

That's called showmanship.

Certainly any of the bands you mention sound better when you are f***ed up. With Hawkwind it is compulsory.

Kiss lacked any substance.

Now Alice Cooper, that's showmanship.

Kiss my ass.

Well Kiss certainly borrowed from Alice but I think their back catalogue is arguably stronger, accepting that Alice had some big hits.
I have seen both and Kiss win by a mile live. Alice certainly had shock appeal in the early days but Kiss have a broader appeal and their longevity suggests that their gimmick was a good one, especially when you consider that glam rock had been passe since 1976.

Well despite critics giving them stick they have lasted since 1973 and have made enough money to keep them in stack heels for 10 lifetimes. I have to respect that.
