It's pathetic - as are these petitions for a re-poll and whatever else they're trying. I voted remain, but always understood the positives to both sides - I think it's those who fail to acknowledge any strength to the opposing view who end up conducting these desperate attempts when they lose out - they can't focus on the positives of the outcome, because they never considered them in the first place.

Doesn't bother me, it just shows you in a bad light imho. As it was I voted remain but after a lot of deliberation. I came very close to spoiling the paper such was my undecidedness. We have the result that we have and I'm going to take positives from it. I just hope that the way we move forward benefits the many not the few. Nice to see farage (the chief)say it was a mistake to promise £350 million to the NHS because it ain't going to happen. How many voted leave because they were taken in by downright lies made for political gain. Don't say 'well they all do it' becaue it doesn't make it right. Onwards and upwards! You are a disappointment to me. I was hoping you would utterly humiliate me with the 'Hierarchy Pyramid' jpeg.
In answer to your question.... NONE. £350 million per week was the gross payment from the UK to the EU. Everyone knows there are rebates and sundry refunds (both of which not guaranteed for any length of time) which nets this amount down to about £8 Billion pa. John Redwood explained this anomaly beautifully by saying when you're asked what the basic rate of tax is, you say 20%... You don't say "Something lower than 20% because you get tax allowances which nets the amount down". Even Cameron stopped bleating about it after Redwood's superb analogy..... Only the very thick and stubborn people continued complaining. Mind you Cameron pulled some strokes... WWIII, being £4300 worse off, claiming he had arranged real concessions from EU summits, then Osborne's threat of an emergency budget, Obama's back of the Queue jibe, Juncker's threats.... Politics eh?

If you had followed my advice that I posted up on here in response to another posters false predictions you could have made a killing like I did. I am an ex IFA and no one listened, preferring to listen to the Economists/Tony Blair/John Major etc who all got it wrong. Those Betfair odds for Leave winning were asking to be lumped on too. I am not in the least bit interested in the betting odds and seeking to make a profit out of them. Indeed to even think like that over an issue this important just adds more froth to your bucket of shame. I am fully aware that the experts "got it wrong" with their predictions! That though is far away from the point. The point is that many, if not most, of the people clearly did not really vote on the issue. They voted as a protest to a perception that our politicians were in hock to the EU, of an unreal feeling that the economic recession was unfairly impacting on them and that austerity was the fault of both our government and the EU and that immigration is unnecessary and putting a strain on resources. The claims of the leave campaign were disgraceful propaganda. Mostly complete lies. What disappoints me is not that some people were this stupid. I have been around enough to know there are. I have confronted UKIP type opinion often enough to know that there is still a swathe of nasty right wing opinion swilling around our lives. What disappoints me is those, particularly from the left, who seem to have joined them. It will be them who suffer most as a consequence of this. The bankers will depart to Paris or Frankfurt. Scotland will re-join the EU. England and Wales will spiral downward after a period of stagflation. Higher prices, lower house values, more unemployment, pension values decreased because of lower stock values. The EU may break up, threatening our security and triggering a world recession. All for what? So that a few people could express their anger at not getting the pay rise they have become used to and at seeing Eastern Europeans getting jobs here! We will all live to regret this. All of us. Even those, like you, who are crowing today. It is beyond stupid. It is shameful.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Yeah, so called 'experts' saying there would be problems and the country ignores them as 'having an agenda'? This anti-intellectualism worked out well in China, in Cambodia...

The experts he was referring too were the self same "eminent economists" that had predicted financial Armageddon if we didn't adopt the Euro over the pound. They were wrong then and will prove to be wrong again once the short term knee-jerking fresh faced traders grow some balls and don't keep selling. Warren Buffet will be buying right now.

Wasn't that over 20 years ago? Most of them would have retired by now. Don't you reckon plenty of hedge fund managers and other countries will take advantage of the situation, keep shorting stock and currency? Plenty of people can take advantage of this uncertainty when we have fewer resources to respond.

There was little or no expertise available. It was mostly spin. The so called intellectuals who can't handle this result are largely of the pseudo variety.
