The tabloids have behaved quite disgracefully throughout although too many accounts from junior doctors read like like 'Jeremy *unt cut my pay in half' but with more words. An 11% basic increase plus more overtime resulting in a 25% net reduction in pay would equate to roughly a third of their hours being overtime and them working it for free. Can we have genuine before/ after hours and pay rates please? I'd rather deal with numbers than politics.

Does anyone else seem shocked/ashamed that a junior doctor's starting pay is only £23,000? Doesn't seem much of a reward for completing a medical degree to me! Then look at the hours they are expected to put in? No wonder they are up in arms.

The difference should just be made up by taxing bankers. Edited by johnfirewall (14 Jan 2016 12.53pm)

Saw one doctor complaining about his £2.31/h for being on call i.e. near the hospital. Initially I thought that wasn't a bad deal but then realised that I'd rather have decent night's sleep than the 20 quid if I was on a consultant's salary. Edited by johnfirewall (15 Jan 2016 3.25pm)

Surprising lack of commentary on this seeing it's been pretty much news story number one this week. Or is everyone just in agreement that Jeremy Hunt is a c*ntweasel of the highest order?

Difficult to have much of a debate when it appears that the vast majority are in agreement. They are being shafted and it ain't right! Up the doctors! I'm not sure I've ever backed a strike before, nice to try something new

This is just another thin end of the wedge attack aimed at an eventual full privatisation of the NHS - which is already happening piecemeal (and not being reported by the right wing press - funny that).. At least 70 MP's and 100 members of the Lords have private interest in private Healthcare companies....Hunt is just the salesman Edited by The Sash (12 Feb 2016 12.15pm)

I thought it was about weekend mortality rates - plus getting any kind of a rise during a period of austerity, albeit low inflation, when no other public sector employees are getting much of a rise, that must be something surely.
